Description: The Fiesta Americana has been my go-to hotel in Cozumel for years. As a scuba diver, I've been to Cozumel dozens of times and have stayed at a number of the resorts on the island. I keep going back to Fiesta Americana, though, for its value, cleanliness, and location.
Fiesta Americana is located a few miles south of town, so you'll either need a car or taxi to get to town for shopping, dining, and nightlife. But since the resort isn't terribly far south (like many others), the cab ride is fairly inexpensive. If you're a diver, the farther south you are on the island, the closer you are to the dive sites. However, you're farther away from town and have a more expensive cab ride. That's the tradeoff, and again that's why I love the "mid" location of Fiesta Americana.
With every stay, the rooms have been clean and well-kept. Every room has an ocean view, which is an amazing view to wake up to each day. Lot of divers stay here, so it's not unusual to see wetsuits hanging over the rail to dry on many of the balconys. The pool is clean and the small beach area is well-staffed. The food overall is good, and even though I'm a very particular diner (no red meat), I didn't have any problem finding foods that I liked. Even so, you'll want to go into town for at least one dinner, as there are a number of great to excellent restaurants in town.
