Beach Wedding of our Dreams!

Beach Wedding of our Dreams!

I have been to Tulum a few times and got my now husband to go almost two years ago. We both fell in love with La Zebra and knew it was the place. I brought many of the starfish decorations but the local wedding coordinator, Gwen with Destination Weddings Tulum, did a phenomenal job! A bride can't be too controlling of the details and have a destination wedding. Gwen listened to what I wanted and the orange, white and starfish theme was incorporated into many details and went off without a hitch.

We had salsa lessons for our guests while we took pictures on the beach. Everyone had a great time but few danced to the live band later.

Lina, the manager of La Zebra, did a fantastic job with the menu and our Tres Leches Wedding Cake. I really enjoyed chatting with her late night after the reception. They are members of the "Slow Food" movement and have an organic garden. Shrimp, chicken mole or an arrachera beef were the choices along with the "La Zebra Salad". All the food was great, especially the green ceviche. People remember the food most of all from a wedding, right?

I rented out all nine cabanas for our family and friends. They now also have a room above the restaurant and jungle rooms with a private pool across the road. The #1 beachfront cabana is divine, luxurious and the only sound is of the crashing waves. The hanging bed was okay but we wished the bigger bed was in the front room. There is a rock shower and sink, regular toilet but no door to the bathroom. La Zebra is an eco-friendly or "eco-amiga" place and runs on a quiet generator. Hair dryers are not allowed.

Much to our surprise and satisfaction, La Zebra management did, in fact, make good on their promise to "make up" for some of our disappointment when we stayed there and had such an awful time in January. We are impressed with this action as they were under no obligation, whatsoever, to compensate us but they did just that and we feel it speaks volumes about the place and is worthy of recognition. Hopefully, if you decide to stay at La Zebra, you won't encounter problems. But if you do have a problem, you should have confidence that they will try to make the situation right one way or another.

La Zebra

Trendy and luxurious cabanas on a slice of paradise in Tulum. Electricity is offered 24 hours a day which is not typical. No phones, no TV's and no worries.

We arrived early afternoon and our cabana, number 3, was not quite ready. Fresh guacamole and watermelon margaritas on the back deck with a view of the spectacular beach caused immediate, deep relaxation.

The cabanas are lively colors with a small porch, 2 chairs, a hammock seat and a foot shaped water basin. Inside, muted colors, shelves on the walls for candles, a safe, fan and a small bottle of tequila and 2 tall shot glasses. Surprising good for being warm and no lime to squeeze in. A short rod to hang clothes and a beach bag with towels and a bottle of water. The king sized bed couldn't be better! Very romantic in the candlelight with the sheer mosquito netting. The breeze was very strong with a storm brewing, left the screened windows open and didn't need the fan.

Around a half wall is the rock shower and bathroom area. There is no door. The water takes a few minutes to warm up, the towels are large and soft, and the products nice.

Veg out in hammocks in the trees, beach chairs with cushions or on the giant pillows on the deck.

Sundays nights is the salsa party starting with lessons then a live band until 11pm. Don't expect to go to bed early.

Bring small bills as change was quite a hassle to get.

This was a huge splurge for me as I usually stay in budget hotels or hostels. I highly recommend it for a peaceful vacation or honeymoon.
