Monasterio Is Awesome! I Totally Disagree

I cannot disagree more with the previous reviewer.

We have had the distinct pleasure to stay at Monasterio twice. And on both occasions it performed at the 5+ Star level.

Monasterio is expensive. And like most expensive hotels the world over, every amenity costs you even more (internet, meals, minibar, tours, etc.). It doesn't matter whether you are in New York, Florence, Dubai, St. Petersburg, Mexico City or Cuzco.

Everything about Monasterio is top notch and perfectly maintained. In contrast to the previous reviewer, we found the service absolutely amazing. The staff was literally tripping over themselves to help us at all times.

Monasterio does have some smaller rooms (but almost all rooms are large for Cuzco and well appointed). If you happen to end up in one not to your liking do not hesitate to register your displeasure and you will be shown to another room more to your liking.

We , also, travel a lot and we have been lucky enough to stay at some pretty fabulous places around the world.

But we are just normal people. We travel with a backpack and normally stay at regular hotels. But in every destination city we visit, we like to stay one night in a really fantastic hotel.

Monasterio is so good, we have stayed there twice.

It's pretty, but they're missing the boat on service

We travel a lot, and let me tell you, don't expect a 5 star hotel. Yes, it's very pretty, but they're missing the boat when it comes to service. I've taken the liberty of listing below some of the deficiencies from the initial reservation to the day we arrived at Cuzco. 1. I needed to add a day to the reservation, called 4 times and left various messages. I sent at least 4 emails and finally, after another long distance phone call, got someone to extend the reservation. 2. Waited in the airport by the hotel desk for 45 minutes for the transportation. Finally just gave up and took a cab.3. Our initial room was smaller than a dog house. 4. On various occasions, we had no hot water in the mornings. 4. The WI-FI didn't work in the room. You had to take your lap top to the lobby. 5. Don't take the hotel arranged tours, they're way over priced for what you get. 5. I tried to change a $50 dollar bill at the front desk for a cab fare but was told that because the bill had a water stain, from the rafting, that they couldn't accept it. why? I have no idea, since they already had ,my credit card on file in case of a problems. instead I was directed around the block to the ATM. 6 When leaving, having been there a week, we were chased down by a couple of employees while already in the cab and made to come back in and pay for an over priced ($4.50) 3 ounce bottle of water that we inadvertently drank and forgot

Monasterio Hotel

Monasterio Hotel

Built on the site of the Inca Amaru Qhala Palace, the legendary Monasterio Hotel is a restored 16th-century monastery with pretty rooms that include private patios, several courtyards, cloisters, and a chapel. One unique feature of the Monasterio is that it is the only known hotel in the world to have 24-hour oxygenated rooms, which is precisely why we chose to stay here. The Flemish-style artwork in our room alone was museum quality. Little touches made the stay even more pleasant, from men in top hats greeting us at the door of our vehicle each time we came and went, to robes and slippers at our disposal, to complimentary bottles of water, to mints on our pillow, to a bathmat wrapped in ribbon.
