Perfect place to stay to explore Oaxaca

The Camino Real was amazing?my husband and I spent the week there to celebrate his birthday. It was so beautiful (amazing gardens and architecture of the old monastery) and the staff was extremely friendly. It was very romantic- and located near all the best sights. Everyone in Oaxaca was friendly, but the hotel staff really went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We took several day trips, and the concierge even set us up with a cooking class with a local chef. we had a great time learning Oaxacan recipes. The pool at the hotel and the breakfast were also highlights. A charming and romantic experience- we will definitely return!
Beautiful hotel, but not a 5 star

The good:
Great location
The best security
Beautiful grounds
Mostly helpful staff
The bad:
Not very clean
Questionable billing practices
Very expensive compared to other regional hotels of this quality
The worst:
Public areas were often closed for private events including the pool area. Not only was this awkward, key facilities were unusable for extended periods of time.
Recommendation: stay for one night just to see the grounds, check your bill very carefully on checkout, and then move to another hotel.

Stunningly beautiful restoration and great value for the money. The staff was gracious and helpful and the pool was very large and nice. There are four individual courtyards overflowing with flowers and each had it's distinct qualities. You feel like being in an oasis from the town. Even the street front rooms were not noisy and we would love to stay here again.
