Great Time at Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort

I had read some of the reviews on the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort before we left on vacation, and some of the negative ones that were written, my reply to you is I don't know where you stayed at but your opinion of the resort our completely wrong. The staff was fantastic, rooms are clean, the beach area fantastic, and the view beautiful. Sure there are kids at the resort, they can stay for free. But there are so many areas you can be away from them if you don't want to be by them. There is an adult swimming pool with swim up bar and beach area. You can parasail, go on a glass bottom boat, or go fishing. These have an extra cost but well worth it. Snorkeling, paddle boating, sail or free. There is a small beach island you can walk out to lay out on or just watch the sea. We had the most wonderful time, it was romantic, yet fun and there is always something to do. We met so many people from all over the world and you become friends in your week time there. Free access to Margaretville every night and free shuttle to and from. Three bars at the resort, slot machines, outdoor grill, buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and two restaurants if you want to get a little fancier to eat at, you do have to make reservations by 3:00 pm the day before. There are tours offices open if you want to do things off the resort. I recommend the Dreamer Cruise, you get to go on a catamaran, snorkel in the Caribbean, drink, dance and go to Margaretville and can jump on the water trampolines and go down the 100 foot water slide, what a blast. So if you are planning your first or even another trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica. I recommend staying at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort. It is close enough to the airport and to get you to the Hipstrip or just about anywhere.
Another nice time!

We have been going here for the past 3 years. You can't beat the value. I think the food is great. Kid's choices were not so good this year. The new renovations are also nice however they are not yet complete. We had to move our room after the first night from building 3 to another building.
The last 2 years we tried to go somewhere else just for a change of pace but came back here. We couldn't justify paying 2 grand more for Sandals or Beaches.
Plan on getting up early (6:30am) to reserve a hut if you need shade. I went to the fitness center each morning around 6:30 so I laid or pool towels from the night before over 4 chairs to make sure my kids had some shade.
Bring a mug (at least 12oz) so you don't have to run back and forth to the bar from the beach. I saw some people bought a Bubba Keg and just filled their cups from that. Good Idea.
If you like snorkeling, try going out behind the island. Bring some bread or a banana from the buffet. The fish go nuts over them.
If you have kids, bring some white T-Shirts. They do Tye-Dye in the kids club.
Not a Good Choce

To be fair, some of the staff were friendly and helpful. However, the majority were indifferent at best, and some were downright hostile.
Rooms are in need of freshening up.
Food OK, but expect long lineups for drinks, and definitely bring your own drink containers, because this resort dispenses drinks in very small cups.
Expect to find people smoking everywhere, including, incredibly, in the pool and hot tub at the swim up bar. Ugh! If this hotel doesn't attract smokers, it certainly caters to them. I do understand that smoking laws in Jamaica may be different from home, but I have never heard of allowing smoking in a shared pool and hot tub before.
Probably Going Back

We went for my birthday last year. Staff was great if you tip a few bucks. Went during slow season, and had the North Beach to ourselves often. Food was OK, but you HAVE to do the excursions! They're inexpensive and some include food! Hilton High Day Tour, Rose Hall, Ziplining, and the booze cruise? FABULOUS! Why go to Jamaica if you don't want to see it? Buffet got old after a few days, but the Barefoot Bar always had yummy food. And their jerk chicken? The BEST I have ever had. I still dream about it...yum! It would have been nicer to be closer to downtown, but there's a free shuttle, and it's pretty safe if you know how to tell them no. The room was big and clean (we were gold members), and overlooked the courtyard even though I requested one farther away, but I didn't mind. Oh, and if you need cigarettes, but them by the carton down the street (not directly across the street) in the little shops for $20. The gas stations and other residents from across the street charge up to $8 a pack, a total scam! They're obviously pocketing the money.
NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!

This place was AWFUL. That's putting it mildly. The pictures shown are so far off it's crazy. I had to change rooms because of the mold and mildew smell was so bad. Food, I'd rather eat fast food. I could go on on but I won't.
I travel for a living so I see many motels/hotels and none have been this bad. I think I was on vacation in a bad trailor court. NO JOKE!!! STAY AWAY, FAR FAR AWAY!!!
