We'd stayed at the Marival, because it's the closest hotel to our cousins department, and since the first minutes we felt very disappointed about the hotel.
The rooms look quite old. They only offer you one coffee compliment (being an all inclusive hotel it's unbelievable) and if you use the coffee maker they don't clean it.
The first day they told us, that they'll have a seafood buffet, but when we arrived to the buffet they didn't have any seafood.
During that night we were chatting outside the hotel with our cousins, we went to the hotel to pick up some stuff and the security staffs treat us as delinquents because we arrived with guests. They tried to stop us at the hotel gate, after we showed them the bracelets they let us get in, but no to our guests.
The next day I tried to complain with the manager, but he was very busy to listen me, so I made my complaint at the front desk.
During that night, we enjoyed Puerto Vallarta?s night life. We arrived around 2:00 o'clock in the morning and for our surprise the security staffs once again behave very rude.
During the check out, we hand it a complaint and it's been more than two weeks without any follow up. So I can say they don't care about their costumers.

Lesson 1: Don't go during the summer months, it's their rainy season! it rains everyday from 5pm to about 8pm. The sun gives way to clouds by 4pm.
lesson 2: the only restaurants any good are the "Pergola" and the italian one (can't remeber it's name). The buffet had horrible food, we had to complain once about some ribs that were stone cold. we would end up eating some pizzas and burgers at the snack bar after the buffet. breakfast was ok though.
lesson 3. the beach is no good, the shore is full of rocks
lesson 4. pay for the safe deposit box in your room. The cleaning lady went thru our luggage and stole US$80.00. The hotels response...we are not responsilble because it was not in the safe.
Between my wife and I, we have stayed in close to 30 (thirty) hotels and resorts. We both agree that this is the worst we have been to. Positives? The room and the pools...that's it.
Great trip-not so great front desk.

This hotel offers everything: good room, great food choices, any beverage, friendly staff, an amazing beach and many activities. The only complaints: on arrival we did not have our room which was booked 7 months prior. The hotel said they were over booked and put us in one room with my brother's family. Imagine 8 people in 1 room. Some slept on cots and some on the couch. Not so great!! Upon check-out the front desk tried to snag an additional $2 from both my brother & myself for the same room "safe" from the first night. Their Mistake and they would not admit it. They did nothing to compensate their error of the double booking, not even say sorry or forget about the $2. We had to pay the $2 to leave the hotel. (This was not about the $2 but rather the principle of the situation.) Not the best way to end an otherwise fantastic vacation.
Overall, the Marival Grand is a great place to vacation. We will definitely go back.

The Hotel is beautiful with great pools and large rooms. Be prepared to attend 3 hour time-share presentation. Sales people are very friendly and they can give you Marival bucks. I used mine in the Spa which was great. The room was large and very stark. Bring a air matress as the bed was very hard, my back is still killing me. The staff was friendly but very lazy. The food was awful. The meat was the lowest on the taste and tender list. The buffet and the Gourmet restaurants had the same food. All the dishes were made with the cheapest ingredients. Drinks were weak and at the pool there was always a line. No servers for the Beach. Great Beach with good ameniies. Alot of kids and families who seemed to enjoy. We went into town for fun. $40 roundtrip cab fare .Better

Overall my husband and I were very surprised on how much we enjoyed this hotel. We stayed for 5 nights and thought that was about the perfect amount of time. There were a few issues that I would like to share -one I would say that is major would be the comfort of the beds. I truly have never slept on anything more uncomfortable. I would recommend bringing your own pillows.
*another complaint would be that most of the bartenders were very unfriendly at times and seemed to be overwhelmed. Some drinks were made wrong several times at different bars.
* DO NOT ORDER THE HOUSE WINE!!! the wine is left out open all day long (HEAT) at all locations and it would'nt even be recommended for cooking! Stay away if you value not having a bad headache in the morning.
