Very nice . . . but

The Sheraton is very conveniently located if you plan on making any trips into town. That is a real plus. I'd advise, however, that vacationers not stay in the garden level rooms. We heard about other guests' enjoyment of the ocean breezes, but being on the main floor, we didn't feel them. Since we couldn't leave the door open, we endured a very noisy air conditioner. As for the rest of the hotel, the staff is very friendly, the fitness center has good equipment but poor ventilation, and registration, like much of PV, directs you to time-share sharks. The latter have good information on area activities, but watch out!

One week in PV

My husband and I booked this trip through our travel agent. A last minute decision which worked out beyond our expectations. Our room was a junior suite in the timeshare section. The kitchen worked out great for breakfasts in our room and for snacks throughout the day. Great views from our balcony. Saw whales everyday. We used the in room safe for all our valuables and had no problems. This section of the hotel is older, but comfortable. Staff friendly and accomodating. We bought groceries for the week at the nearby Mega grocery store. It was an easy 3 block walk. Ate at the hotel restaurants 4 different times-breakfast, lunch and Sunday brunch. No complaints about the food, but enjoyed going into town and trying different places. Town a short bus ride away and the buses are easy to navigate. We would definetly stay here again.

BE SURE TO PUT ALL ELECTRONICS IN THE SAFE

My family have been owners of a timeshare at the sheraton in puerto vallarta for over ten years. I have been there eight times and I have never worried about my belongings or the safety of myself, until this year. The first day we were at the timeshare, we were sitting around the pool "relaxing". Some of my family members were coming so I decided to go to our room. When I went to the room I could not find my iphone, ipod, digital camera, video camera, and cash in my wallet. I did not expect that they would compinsate me for my loses but I thought that I would at least get an "im sorry". However, that did not happen. They accused me of stealing my own stuff. I would hate to see how they treat a regular customer. We spent several days trying to set up meetings with hotel managers and security managers and it amounted to nothing. Three days later they actually came up to our room while we were out and went through all of our bags to see what kinf of valuables we had out. Puerto vallarta is a beautiful place to visit, but I would be very cautious if you chhose the sheraton for your room. There were several people around the pool that have heard of severl cases similar to mine. It seems like they just keep pushing you away...They know you have to leave sometime

Room pictures are deceiving

My husband and I stayed for six nights at the end of February. The room you get (if you book through this site) will not be the one pictured in the photos. There are two hotels, one a Sheraton, and is very nice and the other is a time share Sheraton, which is where they will put you, (it's more the equivalent of a suburban Mariott or a Mariott Residence Inn). You still will have access to both pools (time share side pool is nicer), and the restaurants, but you should just know what you're paying for. Also the time share side has balconies off of the rooms which the Sheraton hotel side does not. Restaurant waiters can be unresponsive, especially to women, the men seemed more inclined to listen to my husband then me but, hey, this isn't the U.S. Typically had better service from female servers. Tip for dodging time share salepeople: have your cab driver drop you off at the Sheraton Hotel side lobby, either desk can check you in and if you do this, the time share sales people will not be waiting for you right after check in.

When I first checked in, it took the front desk about 15 minutes to find my reservation because I had booked online the same day (Sheraton site) and for some reason the hotel couldn't access the reservation. Front desk staff didn't explain hotel amenities upon check-in, a standard procedure in most hotels. I stayed in an ocean view room. Unfortunately it was above the pool and close to the restaurant/bar, so there was annoying music (and one night a comedian) and/or water volleyball players cheering when I kept my sliding doors open to catch the breeze. The room was very stark but clean and larger than most rooms in upscale resorts or big cities. Furniture could/should be updated. Room service efficient--food reasonably priced and decent. Laundry service efficient and reasonably priced. Bellmen in this hotel were wonderful-very friendly and accommodating. Often a line at concierge desk-I usually gave up on the wait. (Concierge did do online airline check-in and print boarding pass for me before I left.) Pool was clean; could have included deeper section. Too many lounge chairs jammed together. I preferred lounging location facing ocean closest to beach. A short walk into town or bus at front of hotel were convenient. The entry to this facility is gated so it seems quite secure (although I felt safe in PV in general anyway.) I got some great pictures of the sunset and fireworks from my balcony. Recommend you go elsewhere for the "spa" services. Pedicure was marginal at best. Facial adequate. Prices inflated. Favorite moment: I was reading in bed one night with my balcony doors open and a bat flew in, took a quick look around and left! After that I kept the lightweight curtain closed. Breeze still came through but no more "visitors!"
