Wonderful Trip!!

My boyfriend and I vacationed here and were welcomed at the entrance to the hotel by the bellboys who immediately took our bags, gave us cool towels for our faces (which smelled wonderful, by the way) and then seated us in the lobby area. We were then brought a cold frozen fruit drink and our key cards, towel cards and safe key were brought to us and the all-inclusive package explained (what was included, what wasn't) The only things not included were the spa and excursions. The beds are very firm, but we slept well. The lobby is open air, so feels humid, that was how many of the hotels and shopping centers were in Cancun. The room was always cool, but a little damp feeling because of the humidity. Our room was cleaned everyday and if we hadn't taken our "do not disturb" sign off the door, they would call to see if we wanted it cleaned. Tropical storm Dolly came through our 2nd and 3rd days and created some issues as far as outdoor activities, but the hotel activity staff did their best to keep everyone entertained. The bar drinks are good, but they serve drinks in little glasses, however, you can bring your own larger glass and they will gladly fill it for you. Overall, it was wonderful! The beach was washed away from the storm, but you could still get out there and play in the water without problems and lay under the 2nd level of umbrellas (closest to the hotel). Invest in sunscreen, if you go to Xel-Ha, they want you to buy their own biodegradable sunscreen, so don't spend the money at the hotel. Also, take the bus in town (70 cents/person).

Beware Golden Parnassus and Conquest Tours

Worst holidayI have ever had in more than 35 years of travel. Upon arrival, front desk refused to recognize the reservation we made through Conmquest Tours. Also refused to call hotel manger. Wouldn't upgrade, said no room available at hotel. After we staged a five-hour sit-in in the lobby a room suddenly became available. Next day room was not made up and in subsequent days was sometimes not made up until 5 pm. Sometimes clean towels were left in room, sometimes not. Spoke to hotel manager next day and he was verbally abusive to us. Could not unlock room door with card on 5 occassions and maintenance had to be called. Floor was being painted and smelled of paint throughout 14 day stay (only one painter doing job. Room service trays left out by others styed in hall for most of day. One blackout. Local Conquest Tours rep. of no help whatsoever and when we returned to Toronto, Conquest head office ignore our letters of complaint.

** NEVER AGAIN **

This is without a doubt the worst all inclusive I have visited in Cancun. The information online was totally misleading. This place should be closed down and completely renovated. The decor is from the 80's and nothing has been done since. With so many beautiful hotels and resorts being built in Cancun, it is only a matter of time until this place goes out of business. I already told everybody I know to avoid this place. I would never go back even if they offer me a week for free. The food selection was horrible and the exercise room is a disaster.

Warning

This was our second time at the Golden Parnassus, as last year we traveled with friends and reserved our rooms well in advance. However upon our arrival (with our friends already receiving their room) we were asked to stay at another hotel a few miles down the beach because the Golden Parnassus overbooked (this should have been our first clue). To make a long story short, the hotel offered to pay (only after I complained) for a weeks stay (excluding flight) for a return trip in 2007/2008. So we decided to give the Golden Parnassus another chance and booked our flight and returned late Dec. 2007. To make a second long story short, on our second night at the hotel, someone broke into our room etc. But what was even more surprising was the treatment I received from the hotel and from the general manager M D. Not only did he refuse to take responsibility for a theft that occurred in his hotel (there was no sign of break in so someone must have had a key ? and we had all of our keys) but we had several screaming matches where he made me feel like the criminal. One exchange became so heated in front of his employees that his secretary came up to me a couple of days later and said that she was embarrassed by his behaviour and that she wanted to apologize on his behalf. Please note that we were not the only room to have been broken into that night ? another family from Guatemala had their items stolen on the same floor and same night as us as well. My wife and I spent the next 5 days of our vacation in a horrible mood; the hotel did absolutely nothing (other then to change our hotel room for safety precautions) to make our remaining stay at least bearable. Upon our return to Canada, I contacted S O, owner of the Parnassus Resorts, to tell him our story and to seek compensation. As of today (4 months later), S O refuses to settle any insurance claims or provide me with compensation. On top of that, and most important, I received absolutely no apologies (other then the one from the secretary) for what transpired at the Golden Parnassus from anyone at the Parnassus resorts. I find this incredible as I know if I were owner, I would bend over backwards to apologize and make things right to anyone who was wronged while being a guest and therefore in my care at my hotel. To sum up, any resort can provide a good holiday if all goes well and the sun is shining overhead, but a truly good resort is measured by their actions when things go wrong. You may think that I am a bitter man for my experience by writing this travel review, but ask yourself this, given the choice, would you really want to stay at a place that shows absolute zero commitment to you as a guest in their hotel in times of crisis? In addition, while I love Mexico, it is a pity that it is being so poorly represented by the above individuals. Unfortunately, my next trip will be elsewhere.
