Beach Palace

Best Things Nearby:
The beach was outstanding! There was also nice shopping nearby.

Best Things About the Resort:
It was clean, with great service and wonderful food and drinks! Also, the activities and special kid's club were great for the children.

Resort Experience:
Although this is an older resort, it was beautiful and clean. The location is perfect, with beautiful pools overlooking the beach and ocean. Food and drinks were available from the time you woke up until the time you went to bed. Nice touches included daily piñatas for the children, ping-pong and billiards tables in the lobby, a library full of books to exchange, ceramic painting on the sun deck, and the best service we have ever had at any resort in 12 years of being RCI members. My daughter loved the Kid's Club, too! I can't wait to go back. The resort was so great that we never left to go to "other" tourist activities.

Best Things Nearby:
The bus is right out front, and you're withing walking distance of a couple of malls and other shops.

Best Things About the Resort:
The staff were extremely welcoming!!!

Resort Experience:
The resort was very clean and well maintained. It is a dated resort and you can tell it was built in the 1980's. They did a good job with the upkeep, but it was just outdated overall.

The food was excellent except for the Mexican restaurant on site.

The day and evening entertainment was low key, but still enjoyable.

It was also nice to have food available all the time without having to decide where you wanted to go out to eat.

The rooms have mini bars, but no kitchens in them.

We got a room facing the ocean, and the sunrise was gorgeous. The ocean was very warm in the evening too (not that it was ever cold anyway!)

We felt a keen disappointment with Beach Palace. We were greeted immediately upon arrival and check-in went smoothly. Our fifth floor room was one of the smallest "hotel rooms" I have seen. I asked to be moved, which happened two days later. Our new second floor unit was larger, the kitchenette facilities had been removed and that area was not repaired or utilized. The unit was dark but more spacious. It faced the beach and had a small balcony. The bathroom had ample vanity space. The TV did not work, it took four phone and personal calls and two days to get someone to move a heavy piece of furniture to discover it was not plugged in.

This is a "family" resort and there were vast numbers of children who overtook the lobby area often sitting on the pool tables as they played there, or generally running through the lobby, and absolutely dominated the small pool areas - even when you sat at the swim-up bar you had to watch you didn't get a ball in your face or have children playing tag around you. Food was set out between meals in the lobby, but again the children dominated that and were often handling food and then putting it back on the plates making it quite unappetizing.

There were 2 restaurants indoors and an outdoor grill. We ate at the indoor Mexican restaurant and the outdoor grill one time, but otherwise took all our meals at the main indoor restaurant, which was very nice with an excellent variety of food. The meal staff were great and cooked your food, both breakfast and dinner, in front of you at your request. Apart from the food staff, we found the staff polite enough, but not as pleasant and accommodating as at our previous resort. We definitely would not stay here again.

An advantage of the Palace Resorts is the fact you can use any of their resorts for the day, using your wristband. We took a bus to the Sun Palace one day, after having the front desk check to make sure they had showers we could use after swimming so we could have dinner there and were told that was not a problem. Not so...it WAS a problem because they had no showers, so if you spent part of the day swimming in the very small pool or ocean, you could not use the "dress code" restaurant because you had nowhere to wash the salt and chlorine off and get yourself changed. We waited for 30 minutes at the front desk of the Sun Palace before they acknowledged they had no facilities we could use.

The Beach Palace is in a good location in walking distance to shopping and La Isla which is a nice place to go for an afternoon and/or evening. It is an outdoor area with nice shops and in the evening musical entertainment and things happening along the waterfront of the lagoon.

Room was a good size, and view was nice. The room smelled mildew-y. The mattress was very hard. It was just old. When we went to the front desk to move, they were not surprised. There was also someone there who was doing the same thing.

We had two standard rooms, each with two double beds. The rooms faced the Kukulcan Boulevard and Nichupte Lagoon. While perhaps not as scenic a view as the ocean-view rooms, it was still pleasant and besides, who wants to spend much time in your room?

The rooms were clean and well maintained by the maids, who create new towel "sculptures" every day. The decor is dated, circa 1970s, and the bathrooms have a humidity problem as they only have a vent with no exhaust fan. The bathroom ceilings have had a sub-ceiling added and I suspect that there is serious mildew above them due to the lack of ventilation. However, no one in our family experienced health problems and the facilities were fine.

Beach Palace is the oldest and smallest of the Palace Resorts chain, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. For starters, there was no need to make reservations at the restaurants and it was rare to have to stand in line more than a few minutes to get a table or bar service.
