great hotel

Hotel was modern and clean. Staff very helpful. Restaurant slightly overpriced but definately among the best meals we had in Hungary. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. At first they would not honor the free buffet travel website said we would get but i showed them my paperwork and then they honored it, so bring proof. The tourest areas are within walking distance (alot of walking but we love that) but the people are NOT friendly. Don't expect common courtesy and manners and you won't be disappointed. Tourists are oblivously an annoyance there, in restaurants, on the street, everywhere. Book your seats if your flying Malev otherwise they will sell your seat and put you on standby, that happened to us.

Staying here makes Budapest a relaxing time - modern luxury with updated amentities that compare to the chic hotels of Chelsea in London and the hip hotels of NYC, Miami and LA - perfect in all details!

This hotel was gorgeous...the fine art collection (Donald Sulton prints) were of fine quality, with high visual impact. The location was wonderful, close to the Pest side by Parliment, and close to attractions on Buda side, Ruda Baths, Castle Hill. The hotel was a wonderful treat, with courteous, professional staff

Art'otel

Art'otel

The location is excellent, as the hotel fronts on the river across from the Parliament building, which is breathtakingly illuminated by the setting sun each evening. Most employees seem to speak English as well as Hungarian (also French and German). Each floor has a theme. The art of Donald Sultan (American) is featured throughout. The rooms are clean, aesthetically pleasing (simple design and color scheme, not fussy - red, black, gray, white - almost Japanese in style), modern, quiet, climate-controlled and comfortable, with a refrigerator (minibar), a safe, and a desk in an alcove, and even the rooms which face west (away from the Danube) have views up the hill to the Mattias Church.

The bathrooms are extremely modern and aesthetic as well, which is almost unsettling as there is some nice art above the commode. There is an excellent complimentary breakfast each morning with fresh baked goods and a wide variety of hot and cold foods, but do get there early to be sure of snagging croissants and a good place to sit. There is a fine dining establishment and art gallery at the "back" of the hotel, and the bar area near the registration desk serves light fare and desserts in between meals. No gift/necessities shop on the premises, although there is a drug store and a small sundries shop just south of the hotel out the back entrance, within a block or two. Bring someone who speaks Hungarian for that trip, however. The staff are so friendly that a staff member may volunteer to acompany you if you are, say, looking for infant formula. We were staying on a discounted rate, the quoted room rate is probably higher, but discounts also abound for this hotel.

Art'otel

This unique hotel nestled along the Buda shoreline of the Danube offers business travelers and adventurous leisure travelers a unique and thoroughly modern hotel experience. Primarily attracting the French (it's next door to the French Institute), Germans and other Western Europeans in town on business, the Art'otel has a dramatic flair and clean design that is tandem with the latest European decorating styles. It's modernity is in stark contrast to the historic and somewhat traditional city of Budapest.

With over 600 pieces or original art by American artist Donald Sultan it is also quite startling in appearance, with canvasses and objects everywhere you look. There is no sense of clutter, however, as generous amounts of natural light seep in to the property on even rainy, overcast days (such as when I visited).

Rooms are very simple in furnishings, yet feature bold colors and design choices. Every room has an outlet for connecting a laptop computer and its own voice mail system. A business center was almost ready for completion at the time of my visit, and a full service restaurant, the Chelsea, offers delicious meals.
