This resort is a condo, but also rents rooms by the night...or it may be included in a vacation package from a travel agency.
I have stayed here many weeks over the past 10 years, and I was only once disappointed. Be sure not to get a room near the parrot! He's cute, but he wakes up early and is very loud.
Why do I like it? The main reason is definitely location! It is a quick ride from the airport, a 10-minute walk to a large grocery store, and shops, and the bus stops there (it's usually a 10-15 minute bus ride to downtown). There are many nice restaurants within walking distance, too.
It is getting older, but it is constantly maintained and upgraded. A studio here is as large as many of the 1- and 2-bedroom units I've seen at the newer places. I like that! My favorite rooms are high in the main building facing east. I love to sit on the balcony and watch the sunrise while I'm drinking coffee and eating a plate of fresh fruits. The decor is pleasant...not too overpowering, but cheerful. Beds are comfortable. The cable TV is in a large cabinet with 3 large drawers underneath. I often use these for dry food items as there is a large dresser for clothing too. Closets are big, and there is an in-room safe with a key. (A deposit is required, but the safe is optional.) The kitchen is fully equipped with modern utensils and dishes. I seldom use the dining table inside as I prefer the table on the balcony for eating or reading. The room has a ceiling fan and air-conditioning, a radio with alarm, and a telephone. I love the bathroom! It's a big marble bathroom with both tub and shower. The double sink is nice, and the triple mirror is handy. A hairdryer is provided. Towels are large and fluffy! Nice soaps, shampoo, lotion, etc. are provided daily (or as needed).
The resort has a sandy beach and provides chairs, loungers, palapas, and beach towels free of charge. I have never used the spa or gym, but my friends loved both. There are restaurants on site, and many activities (both free and pay) are offered during the day. Try the Donkey Derby!
The pools are nice. The main pool has a waterslide and is very big. There is a smaller pool near the beach. I usually relax at another large "quiet pool" between the buildings. The pools have always been clean and with a comfortable temperature. I have never found one bug in my room unless I forgot and left the screen door open...then maybe I'd see a mosquito. This is another advantage to the rooms on upper foors...almost no flying bugs up there!
The tile floors are kept spotless, and the maids are very efficient. The only thing I dislike is being greeted immediately after check-in by timeshare salespeople. Firmly say no, or go for a free tour! http://villadelpalmarvallarta.com/cms
