Best Things Nearby:
Absolutely everything is "nearby". You can walk to town for great shopping and dining, or, you can walk to the marina and catch a water taxi over to Medano beach. Or, walk around the marina and then go shopping in the huge mall or eat in the wonderful restaurants on the water. Or, book a fishing trip right there in the marina. Or, walk towards town and book an ATV tour of the lighthouse. There's just so much to do!
Best Things About the Resort:
The service is excellent. They book all of their activities with Juancho's, which is the best, most honest place in Cabo. They have activities at the resort. Also, they have activities at their sister resort, Solmar. Be sure to check out the Wednesday night Fiesta.
Rooms are luxurious, and unless you're on the ground floor in the back buildings, you'll have an absolutely astounding view! Service is friendly and awesome. The restaurants on the premises, although pricey, are excellent. They are currently building a world-class spa to be completed at the end of 2003, I think. We've been to many places in Cabo. . . Playa Grande has the best accommodations and is located in the best place in Cabo. Plus, you can't beat their private, vendor-free beach (just don't swim in there... dangerous undertow).
Resort Experience:
Not very kid-oriented as there isn't much for little ones to do. Older kids (10+) would be fine. Stay at Pueblo Bonito if you have little ones; that seems to be where families gravitate, because they have a swimmable beach (although the vendors will harrass you on that beach). The beach at Playa Grande is vendor-free and you can usually find yourself alone there, which I love, but you cannot swim because it's on the Pacific Ocean and the undertow is dangerous. Rooms are amazing! Marble floors, gorgeous views from the balconies, and even the one-bedrooms have two bathrooms which makes it easy to share a unit with another couple.
Concierge and staff are fabulous. They'll be happy to book anything for you. They are not high-pressure there, so if you don't want to attend a timeshare presentation, then don't. Even though I own, I usually attend because, after the presentation, you get huge (and true) discounts on activities. I attend on Monday morning and book all of our activities for the week afterwards. Huges savings, plus they use Juancho's, which is the best activites vendor that there is. We've been ripped off by other vendors and Juancho's is HONEST, and they also offer better services for the same money as other outfits. For example, we booked a trip to snorkel at Santa Maria, and we got our own private boat with a cooler full of sodas, water, and beer, and we went in the morning before it got hot. The other outfits cram 50 people on a huge boat and go out around noon when the sun is unbearably hot and then charge the same as what we paid with Juanchos.
After checking out the many, many resorts in Cabo, we settled on Playa Grande because it is so posh, quiet and away from the younger party scene, but within walking distance to anything you want. Plus, the vendor-free beach and the incredible views cannot be beat.
Our one gripe is that they don't have more activities on site.
We love Playa Grande. 'Nuff said! :)
