Sheraton Rio Hotel and Towers

Convenient location to Ipanema and Copacabana just a short taxi ride. Rooms are spacious and modern. The hotel is on a beach but not part of the hotel so it is still a public beach and no service is offered or life guard service.

Not so impressed with Rio

Rio is a beautiful city destroyed by graffiti on all the buildings in this city. The local hotels waste run-off pollutes the beaches. Everything is way over priced and all the buildings in downtown Rio are secured by bars to keep the local gangs from robbing the tourist and the locals that are staying in them.

Be Sure to Get a High Floor overlooking the City

Location is isolated but within walking distance to Ipanema/Leblon. We should have requested a high floor overlooking downtown. Our 7th floor room overlooked the parking lot. Not all rooms are "ocean view" as advertised-baloncies are only large enough to stand on. Very nice hotel, but if first visit, consider staying in a hotel in Copa or Ipanema -- this hotel is to far from stores & restaurants. About Rio: it is a big city on the beach. If you travel from the USA, choose at least one other South American city/country to visit.

This hotel was amazing! With several pools, a kids club, and several restaurants to choose from, this was definitely a fun vacation with my mom and sister. It rained a lot while we were there, so check the weather report!

The beautiful beachfront hotel features local Brazilian art in a spacious lobby. We had a wonderful view of the water one side and hills on the other. From our room, we could hear the waves washing up on the shore. The hotel offers a free shuttle to Copacabana/Ipanema Beach. This is a nice location if you want to get away from the traffic/congestion of the Copacabana/Ipanema area. We used a "timeshare" exchange for this reservation (1 night at the hotel was more than our exchange fee).

Restaurants at the hotel: Pizza Palace (good pizza, try the pizza with Calabresa sausage)

Entertainment: Nightly entertainment featuring a local Brazilian singer. The singer had a wonderful voice and played the guitar very well.

Drinks: Try the "Capirinha", a Brazilian speciality containing a lot of alcohol with a sweet sour taste.
