The hotel is located far away from any of the "scene"in Rio.The staff is very unaccomodating,,meals and drinks are very expensive, and one gets the feeling of being"nowhere".
Nice Hotel Poor Location

I've stayed twice at The Sheraton Rio Hotel & Towers it's a nice hotel but the service is not what you would expect from a Sheraton. They have a really nice pool and its own beach front. Rooms here need renovating and the air conditioning is very poor. The hotel is a bit off location wise. You can walk in the day to Lebon and Ipanema but it's a good 15-20 minutes away. I would not advise walking to or from the hotel at night as the area is not safe or well lit. If you can, buy water, juice and snacks from the stores or snack huts by Lebon beach because the hotel charges $7 for a bottle of Evian water and forget about in-room internet they don't offer that service. Although they are happy to take your money $3 for 10 min. in the business centre. I felt the hotel really nickeled and dimed guests. I would only stay here if The Marriott was not avail.

Only Hotel on the Beach in Rio

The location is unique in Rio but, it comes at a price. Yes it is priced as any Sheraton in a major city but, you will pay with the poor room conditions; excessive elevator waiting time; the eye sore of the huge "favela" slums climbing the hill right across the street from the hotel and, the "hotel beach" constantly taken by the inhabitants of the slums.
Choose only beach-front rooms. Low level floor room proved ran down unacceptable. Accept only high floor rooms. I requested to look other rooms 3 times before settling for final room I took. Neverthless, the A/C did not work well and the bathroom sink and bathtub had partially clogged drains. The TV was at least 20 years old and very small for the room.
The location however is precious. There is no other hotel property in the Rio metropolitan area with beach direct access, ocean view with unobstructed views of Guanabara bay and, proximity to Rio's "Zona Sul" posh neighborhoods. I strongly recommend it for a family stay but, there are better and newer hotels at Barra da Tijuca and Sao Conrado beaches that would suit best in a short business stay.
Stay at the only hotel on the beach

The hotel is not near anything, but I was happy with the location. It is the only hotel that is on the beach. It is a quiet beach without the constant vendor traffic. You can go to the other beaches for the day. I enjoyed watching the locals that came to the hotel beach. There are no places to eat near the hotel but you can take the local bus or a taxi in front of the hotel to get wherever you want to go. Stay in one of the hotels on the main street in Leblon.
