Description: We were a group of seven. The hubby and I are middle-aged Midwesterners, and working for an airline, I have travel extensively. The rest were teens ages 15 to 18.
Once we checked in, they upgraded hubby and me to what we called the "bathtub" room. These were the rooms that overlooked the ocean and had the "tub" outside. They weren't whirlpools, but rather large, round bathtubs. Honestly, we never used it, although it was nice to have the upgrade, but it was really a "less desirable" position. We enjoyed it never the less since it was right next to the pool, about 20 feet away, and we were sipping cool, tall tropical drinks next to the pool. We really appreciated that the kid’s rooms were near us, just around the corner. (We were told at booking that we could request rooms next to or near them, but that there was no guaranteed to this request). Since we were all on the "ground" floor so to speak (we had to go down the elevator when we first got there to get to our rooms), we really never used the elevators. The elevators seemed to work "at will"--for example, when we were leaving, they had one (of two) off for repairs. We waited 15 minutes for the other one. I finally walked up to the desk, BUT after waiting another 10 minutes, my hubby and the girls finally walked up the stairs with our bags, and they found a cleaning person had turned off the remaining functioning elevator to clean it!!!!!--that's Mexico!!!! After this, I wouldn't want a room way up in the towers and wouldn't recommend this property for anyone with disabilities regarding personal transportation.
We couldn't complain about the cleanliness of the resort. They were always washing and scrubbing and cleaning something. Our room was immaculate! I even noticed that when people checked out, they moved all the furniture in the rooms and cleaned behind and under everything!! Our only complaint was that they didn't clean our rooms until 5pm or after on most days. Some reviews I've read complained that the rooms stunk!!! NOTICE!!!! Cancun is in a hot, tropical/humid environment!!!!!!!! This makes the rooms smell like what some call "musty," but it is a natural result of Western building standards in a tropical environment (so are the few bugs in your room). If you ask the maid, they also had an air freshener that they could spray, but it couldn't remove a "permanent" condition. Also, you are given a TV remote and pool-towel cards upon check-in that you had to return when you checked out. Additionally, your all-inclusive bracelet costs $100 to replace if you loose it! Overall, I rate the Oasis Playa between a three- and four-star resort, and I'd stay there again!
