McCreary County is a beautiful area... but that's not the point in this review.
The hotel is fairly convenient - kind of between the Falls and Big South Fork and several of the other natural spots of interest.
Oh, and if you're not familiar with the area - eat at the Dairy Bar on Main Street - about a mile from the hotel - that's good stuff.
Our visit....
the room was very clean and spacious, beds comfy. The continental breakfast was pitiful. The dude that checked us in was nice enough but not dressed "professional" - but, that's one of the charms of this area.... this is not a big city - so, having someone check you in wearing a baseball cap - well, that's OK.
The girl working the front desk the next morning was nice. However the audit person working the office was about as rude as they come.....
So - one rude person and a pitiful breakfast (and it was Sunday morning - pretty sure the Dairy Bar was closed...). Very comfy bed, well rested, and a nice warm shower. It probably balances out.
Its probably worth about 75% of the cost they charge - but I have stayed in much much worse places.
And.... if you're here for tourism - forget the hotel, you just sleep there, get out and enjoy the beauty this county has to offer. (did I mention I grew up there....). Oh - and if swimming is important to you - call ahead to check that pool as another traveler advised - it had green water in it when I was there in August.

My two grandsons and I stayed at Best Western South Fork Inn for two nights. We found our room clean, comfortable, spacious and quiet.
We would stay there again. However I learned something. If swimming is important in your travel plans, call the hotel and ask if the pool is in service before you book. The first night the pool could not be used for whatever reason.
Our second night, however, the pool was in service. I did not find the staff disinterested or rude, as reported by the first reviewer. However, with the exception of the young man on duty during the two evenings (Thursday and Friday, Aug. 7 & 8 (2008) their dress and manner in general did not measure up. I think they were all okay persons but could use more training. They did try to answer questions about places to eat, etc., however.
Also the cost was higher. The Big South ForkNational River and Recreation Area is gorgeous (and uncrowded) . It would be nice if the hotel landscaping were more in keeping with the area's beauty..
Stay at this hotel only if absolutely necessary.

This Best Western is fairly new; therefore, the hotel appeared clean. Our biggest complaint was customer service. They were not sensitive to our needs or reservation criteria. The employees were not customer service trained. We had reserved a non-smoking room, and when we checked in, he stated no non-smoking rooms were available. He did not show any concern for us and gave us a smoking room. The next day, we asked for new clean towels and extra pillows, we were asked by the same employee to come down to the first floor and pick them up ourselves, because he was the only one working and could not leave the front desk unattended.
Employees do not smile and do not greet customers.
