A beautiful boutique hotel 3 blocks from the beach were the boardwalk goes for miles.
The hotel is in a Beverly Hills area of Montevideo with lots of shops and cafes. The staff at the hotel were very helpful, kind and very professional. The restaurant was elegant with excellent food. The staff at the restaurant made our dining experience even more memorial with interesting conversation about wine and the different foods unique to Uruguay. Our room was beautiful, as was the whole hotel, with lots of fresh flowers every where. The pool looked great, but it was too cold and was under some sort of renovation. If I return to Uruguay I will definitely stay at the Belmont House

Beautiful Alternative to Downtown

This hotel is nesteled in the upscale Carrasco neighborhood, a suburb of Montevideo. Although it has a Montevideo address, it is actually situated well outside the downtown area (about 25 to 30 minutes). So just be aware of this when booking a room here.
The location is beautiful, what with it being in a residential area. The coast is a few streets away and easily reachable on foot. THere are many restaurants and shopping plazas down the block. Very quiet and tranquil.
The hotel itself was very clean and well-run/maintained. The staff was very attentive to our needs, though most of the wait/housekeeping staff did not speak English.
Breakfast came complimentary with our room and was very good. The pool area is beautiful, as are the spacious rooms and bathrooms. Has a nice quaint bar with an excellent and friendly bartender. Reception staff is very helpful and speaks English well. Taxis & Remises were easy to come by (just ask the reception staff), as were suggestions on food and area attractions.
Perhaps it is not the most child-friendly hotel, better for the adult traveler who enjoys the bed 'n' breakfast style atmosphere. Oh yes, and because we were foreigners, we did not have to pay the IVA of 21% (hotel tax).
All in all, very enjoyable. A+ in our book!
