Nice room, but smelly!

The room at Quality Inn was nice and mostly clean, but there was one BIG problem. When I booked the room 6 months earlier, I specifically requested a non-smoking room. This room not only had ashtrays, it reeked of stale cigarette smoke! When I went to the front desk to complain and try to get another room, I was told that my reservation stated I wanted a SMOKING room. Not correct! Because it was Commencement weekend, there were no other rooms available, so all they could do was offer me air freshener. Anyone who has been in a smoky room knows that spraying some scent in the air does little to get rid of smoke odors. Even a full change of the linens would not get rid of the smell in the furniture, walls, etc. YUCK!
The real kicker was when the hotel staff tried to blame the mistake on Travelocity. It was obvious to me that someone had made a huge mistake and we had no choice but to pay the price for it. The hotel did not offer to refund any money or even try to find us another room elsewhere. It was only when I insisted they do SOMETHING that they offered the freshener spray.
On checkout, when I asked for a receipt, I was told I'd have to get it "from the third party you booked through". I would NOT stay in this hotel again if I ever go back to Syracuse. If you are planning to attend any events at the University, this hotel is rather far from campus, and awkward to get to if you don't know the town.

This is the fourth time I've stayed at this hotel. The first two times it was a Marriott property. Since Marriott has decided to get rid of any properties that had outside entrances, it has become a Quality Inn.
If you are staying on the third floor the rooms are spacious and airy. The second floor room I stayed in was close and dark. There is a nice pool. There is nothing special about the continental breakfast, but the cookies at check-in were appreciated by all.
We needed another bed and was told there were no rollaways available at check-in. Went down a few hours later and was able to get one for an added fee.
The third floor rooms were worth the price. I would not stay on the second floor again!!
