NH Krystal - pros and cons

We recently stayed at the Krystal and have some positive and negative opinions of the resort. The major positives were the atmosphere and the location. It's a very laid back resort which if you're looking for somewhere to just relax, this is a good place. The location was nice too... only 10-15 minutes from most places you would want to go. Unfortunately the negatives were very negative. Please take my advice and DO NOT sign up to talk to the timeshare people! They were nice until we said 'no' then were just outright offensive. They offer incentives to go talk to these people, but I'm not entirely sure it was worth it. The second negative were the beds. Talk about rock-hard. We had the upgrade to the ocean-view room (which was beautiful) and expected something pretty nice. Well, the room itself was great but the bed was terrible. Thirdly, we did the all-inclusive and ate pretty much off the buffet. Definitely a disappointment. The food was usually cool if not cold and just wasn't that great overall. We would definitely go back to Puerto Vallarta, but would have to seriously reconsider where we stayed. On a positive note, the staff was very courteous and helpful and the grounds were absolutely beautiful. We thought the service overall was great. Please be aware, however, they are adding a building to the resort currently which will be under construction for about 2 more years. This was a disappointment as well as it was loud and could be heard from all over the resort.
Great Place to stay!

I have stayed at the Krystal 3 times in the last 7 years and each time I like it more. I stay in the timeshare section of the resort, but I have walked the grounds numerous times over the years. The pool is beautiful and there are always plenty of chairs. The bar staff is always nice and very helpful, they are willing and ready to take your next order. The staff behind the reception counter is always polite, professional, and check-in is usually quick and painless. BE AWARE of the timeshare people; as soon as you check in they hound you trying to set up an appointment.
I don't usually eat at the hotel as there are so many great restaurants outside of the hotel grounds to eat at. I would suggest you go grocery shopping down the street and grab yourself some food, this saves you some money over the course of the week. Grab yourself some alcohol and plastic cups/bottles, and it is a lot cheaper then buying it at the pool bar.
You can take a taxi downtown for $6(us), or take the bus for 50 pesos. The taxi will pick you up at the lobby, and the bus picks you up in front of the hotel. We have found the bus is a more fun, and just as easy. You can save yourself some money over the course of the week by taking the bus.
There is plenty of shopping in the area. The beach has vendors, as does all of downtown. If you walk downtown from the hotel, almost the entire walk (3 to 4 miles) is shopping. If your looking for a great Margarita and great guacamole then try Pipi's, which is downtown just off of the water. All of the taxis know.
Pleasantly surprised again!

We were pleased with our stay at the Krystal. Having stayed there about six years prior and then reading current reviews, we were considering switching to another hotel before departure. When we got there we were pleasantly surprised that everything was pretty much the same - Great! We did not have all-inclusive, so we were not restricted to just the hotel food, which was good, but many guests were complaining that now there are only 2 restaurants. There are of course time-share owners there also, but as a hotel guest, our room was clean, quiet, in a good location and large for three people. The grounds are beautiful and the staff is kind and helpful. You must remember that this is a Spanish-owned hotel and expect some differences in the culture. It is in a perfect location too - centrally located in walking distance to shops, the marina where the cruise ships come in, and even Walmart! There are buses outside for your convenience too! Currently, there is some construction which is evident, but we were not affected by it. All in all this was a very nice hotel and I would recommend it to anyone. This was our fourth time to Puerto Vallarta and we have stayed at other properties which were fancier. We, however, enjoy the authenticity which might not be for everyone. As a note, there are no refrigerators or coffe pots in your hotel rooms which may inconvenience some people. There is a new mall next door with inexpensive restaurants and even a Starbucks. It was not busy season but you must be prepared to awaken early to reserve a pool chair. If you are not extremely picky or high maintenance then the Krystal would be an excellent choice. Can't wait to go back!

The rooms they show on web are all but gone. The renovated (new) rooms have leaks and absolutely no soundproofing . Demolition all around you. No activities. One on Sunday - Mararachis - guests not informed - Concierge not knowledgable. Food pretty bad and expensive. The plus side , pools are beautiful and hotel is convenient to downtown.

Our overall stay at the krystal was good.
The front staff that works the midnight shift needs to be trained on how to be a little bit more helpful
my daughters is a diabetic, her sugar level was very low, we went to the front desk and explained what was happening. The front desk person said that there was nothing he could due because everything was closed. He did not help us.
The restaurant by the pool area has and promotes to get the buffet. Dont get it!!!! Not for $*
