GRAND VELAS ALL SUITES & SPA RESORT

Best Things Nearby:
Well, the best things are on-site. I never left the resort because it’s not necessary to go somewhere else. I didn’t even go to the beach because in my opinion the beaches in Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta are horrible (there’s nothing like the Caribbean waters). But with the incredible pools, you won’t even miss the ocean.

Best Things About the Resort:
I like everything at the resort. From the moment you arrive, you are treated with the best service possible; the check-in process in efficient and very quick. Everybody is very friendly and they make you feel right at home.

You will feel totally relaxed at the resort. It's very peaceful and it's never crowded. Since it's all included, you can just relax by the pool and the waiters will bring you drinks and snacks at your request.

Resort Experience:
The accommodations are very nice, luxurious but not exaggerated; overall, it’s one of the best units I’ve stayed at.

The room I was assigned was a one-bedroom unit. It was a very large unit for a one-bedroom; it had a very nice balcony with ocean and pool views (all the units have ocean views), a mini bar with sodas, beers, and chips stocked every day, and two big screen TVs. The furniture of the units are very nice; I think they brought almost all of the furniture from Bali. The beds are the best; the quilts and the pillows are also very comfortable, and I have never slept better in my life. The only thing that I missed this time I went was the Jacuzzi. Last time I went, I got a studio unit and all the studios have a Jacuzzi, but the one-bedrooms only have a normal tub and a shower. The one-bedroom unit also has a small dining area and a small table and chairs on the balcony, so you can eat something while you watch the ocean from your unit.

This is a small resort, so you don’t have to walk a lot to go from one place to the other. They have a very well equipped gym with a lot of high technology exercise machines; they also give classes in yoga and tae-bo. The SPA facilities are very nice, and there are a lot of different areas for the different treatments given at the resort.

If you like to party and go to bars and discos, this is not the resort for you since almost all the nightlife is far away; you would have to take a cab or rent a car to get there. There is a nice bar on-site and they play jazz music there. They also have pool bar and bartenders are nice.

The only thing I don't like about the resort is that a lot of guests feel they are rulers of the universe and they are not friendly with the other guests. I'm not saying all of them are like this, but when I went, it was like this.

The food is more than excellent. The Frida and Lucca restaurants can't get better -- they simply have some fine chefs there with original and very creative ideas.

I really recommend this resort to people who really care for good gourmet meals, great service, SPA facilities, and luxurious accommodations.

From the moment you step out of the taxi, you know you are in heaven. They greet you with cold towels to cool off, then escort you to a couch for check-in and a drink. After you are finished, they take your luggage to one of the many gorgeous rooms that overlook the ocean and mountains. You will not want to leave. You feel like the rich and famous when you are there. From the beds, furnishings, and stocked refrigerator, it takes your breath away.

The pool area, with a three-level, three-temperature infinity pool, is the most impressive pool I have experienced. The staff brings drinks and food to you poolside, and you can also get room service around the clock.

I could go on and on -- do yourself a favor and visit.

This is an all suite resort/spa. The rooms are very nice and all have a view of the ocean. Our particular room was smack in the center of the building on the eighth floor and had a great, unobstructed view of the entire resort and ocean. The bathroom was luxurious and had a large, two-person jacuzzi that we unfortunately did not use even one time. The rooms were extremely clean and well taken care of. We particularly liked the mini bar that was restocked with bottled water, soda, beer, and snacks every day. One other deserving mention is the bed. It was arguably the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on.

The resort itself was very nice and very well maintained. It seemed as if they were cleaning something, painting something, etc constantly. The pool is an Infinity design and is really three separate pools. The pool closest to the hotel is warm (very warm, almost like a bath), the middle pool is cooler and the pool closest to the beach is the coldest. However, we did not notice much of a difference between the middle pool and the last pool.

The beach is fairly nice, but we were disappointed in the water. It was not particularly clean and kind of reminded me of the water at the Jersey shore. If you're expecting Caribbean turquoise water you will be disappointed. Also, the temperature of the water is on the cooler side, so we spent much of our time in the pool.

On another note, we were very surprised by the number of kids at this resort. It was absolutely over-run with the little ones and was very noisy all of the time. Don't get me wrong, we love kids, but we were looking forward to relaxing by the pool enjoying the peace and quite and it just didn't happen. Additionally, many of the kids were allowed to run wild and their parents seemed to give no thought to the fact that they might be disturbing other guests.

Lastly, neither my wife nor I speak Spanish besides "hola" and "gracias" and a good number of the waiters barely spoke English, so it made for some interesting meals when we ordered one thing and got something completely different.

All in all, this was a beautiful resort with excellent service and we would recommend it to our family and friends.

Best Things Nearby:
There isn't much nearby, but we did enjoy walking on the beach and renting a jet ski. There is quite a bit of parasailing going on from the beach, but we didn't try that.

Best Things About the Resort:
The service is fantastic!!! I can't say enough about the staff. They are all helpful and were more than willing to please. The rooms were beautiful and every room has a view of the ocean. The food was wonderful. They do have a very nice spa if you want to use it, and their workout room is really nice too.

Resort Experience:
The Grand Velas was GREAT!! I can't wait to come back. The food was fantastic. You could order off of the menu for breakfast or lunch, or they had a super buffet. At dinner, you had the option of casual by-the-beach dining or eating at one of the two gourmet restaurants. They have a kids' program if you want to take the kids with you, and you don't need to worry about them. There is maid service twice a day, so you never run out of towels, and they even turn your bed down for you while you are eating dinner. There are three pools of varying temperature. The first pool is the warmest, the middle pool is in between, and the bottom pool by the ocean and the pool bar is the coldest. They do have something for everybody.

Best Things Nearby:
There's not a lot nearby.

Best Things About the Resort:
Beautiful. Pool, beach, and dining are all so close.

Resort Experience:
The spa was excellent. The facial and massage for 50 minutes were both great.

HELPFUL HINTS:
ATM: There is an ATM located outside the main entrance to your left, past the hut (red building). If you want to change US$100, they will only give you pesos and you cannot get 50% pesos / 50% dollars. SO USE THE ATM!!

TIMESHARE PITCH:
When we arrived, a woman introduced herself and asked if we were picked up by John. We said no; we took a cab (200 pesos, but if you walk across the bridge out of the federal zone, it’s 100 pesos). She said she would pay our cab fare and she wanted to give us discounts on activities and tell us about the resort. She said come to her desk within the hour. So I went by myself 20 minutes later to get my cab fare. She said, "Where is your wife?" I told her that she was upstairs resting. She said, "Oh, um, I need your wife to be here; we get in trouble if we do not tell all the guests the information." I said, "What about the cab fare?" She said that her boss was not there that night; he would have to approve it and she suggested that we come back the next day!!! And she could not tell ME about resort, so she said I should come back with my wife in the morning. It sounded like the biggest bunch of B.S., so we never bothered and no one mentioned timeshares or even hinted at it the rest of the vacation. We did go to the cobblestone road in downtown PV., which was not interesting to us. It was mostly bars; as it was Superbowl weekend, all the bars wanted to offer us two-for-one deals and try to get us to watch the game in their bar.

Overall, the weather was great. The pools were beautiful -- three huge ones that overflow so you feel like you are in the ocean. Nice beach. Great service. YOU WILL ENJOY THIS RESORT if you are looking to relax!!!! A mariachi band played one night and a jazz band played another night. Activities are light, but we are not the type to play Bingo or Simon Says like at the Concord.
