We stayed at both the Holiday Inn (HI) and the Best Western (BW) in the same weekend, and much preferred the HI. They are side-by-side right on the Zocalo, so location is equal. HI had much cleaner and newer rooms. The beds are stiff but even stiffer at the BW! BW also lacked Free internet, gym and in-room safe. Prices were about the same. Staff was friendly but not intrusive. BW staff kept trying to sell us tours and taxi rides.

Our stay was good because we wanted to be on the Zocalo. However, we arrived from an overnight flight from Victoria BC at 6:00 a.m. We did not expect a room to be available, but we did not expect to have to wait until 3:30 in the afternoon to get into a room. We asked repeatedly, starting around 11:00 a.m. if there was ABSOLUTELY NO ROOM AVAILABLE? and the reply was always "NO". The dinner menu selections were not well prepared, usually luke warm. Dining room staff were very helpful. Rooms were small, but adequate and clean. Appreciated the safe in the room and free internet access for guests.

Excellent Location, nice facilities. Service was not to the standards of a Holiday Inn. Made a reservation for 2 (2 single males) employees at front desk assigned me a one bed room unless I would give them "mordida" (a harrasing way of tipping in Mexico)

i was out to Mexico city for 2 days and was looking for an economic hotel which is close to the market and Zocalo square and this hotel was the PERFECT match... i trusted the reviews which were posted and booked it. It is really a good hotel upto the Canadian standards. Its really good to be in the middle of the city.
