The Inn At Mazatlan

The Inn At Mazatlan

I have been staying here for over 10 years. The Inn recently added a new tower and pool. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. The rest of the rooms will be redecorated when all the new construction is complete. If you don't like extremely large complexes, but want a comfortable & well maintained resort with pretty grounds, this is the place for you! It's like family. I believe that I have made friends there and look forward to each visit. The room prices vary greatly between a studio and a penthouse -- $105.00 - $700.00 per night if you are renting. Papagayo Restarante has really nice food at reasonable prices. The staff is exceptional and as nice as can get. This resort is located close enough to the Zona Dorada (Golden Zone) where you can easily walk to other restaurants and shops galore. If you want to check out a "Mega Resort", The Inn is next to El Cid. (This one is too big and impersonal for my tastes). Even if you stay somewhere else, stop by for some cocktails and appetizers around sunset.

Best Things Nearby:
Beaches, shopping, restaurants, and nightlife are all walking distance, but taxis (or "Pulmonias") are also readily available for very reasonable rates. The Golden Zone is an almost daily destination with all sorts of Ethnic stores in which to browse and Original eating establishments.

Best Things About the Resort:
Roomy suite. Water was purified, so we didn''t have to worry about cooking with it. All beds were very comfortable, even the hide-a-bed. The Inn had coffee available, down on the pool deck every morning, so you could meet others staying there. It was a nice start to the day. The kitchen was a bit sparce, having only a two burner stove, a small fridge, and a sink. There were enough dishes, etc. for us all though, and we didn''t eat every meal in.

Resort Experience:
We enjoyed having such a well located timeshare. We walked to the "Golden Zone" daily to try new food, buy souvenirs, and do all the touristy things. With three children, we find that accessibliity to fun, but inexpensive entertainment is mandatory. The timeshare had quite a few activities that we could take part in as well.

The Hotel Restaurant "Papagayo" served excellent food, although we found ourselves eating at many other locations in Mazatlan. >[? We stayed in the older, lower part, because the tower wasn''t finished yet. Our room still had a great view, though. The staff was friendly and helpful, ready to help. There was a lot of staff!

Best Things Nearby:
Great beach with good surf Traveling lobster fisherman

Best Things About the Resort:
The on-site restuarant is very nice. The rooms are spacious and most seem to have ocean views.

Resort Experience:
The units themselves are nice, good sized rooms with plenty of space. All of the new tower rooms have an ocean view.

The pool is too small for the number of units, but the beach is right there.

YOu can walk or take a bus/taxi to shopping areas, restuarant, or a nice ice cream shop.

The sunglasses and hat peddlers on the beach will drive you nuts.

Marigot Bay Hotel

This is the most beautiful place I have ever stayed. Period. Though it's called a hotel, Marigot Bay hotel is actually a collection of rooms/villas jutting out of the hillside surrounding the bay. You walk up stairs and walkways to get to your room. The rooms are large, and screened. There is no air conditioner, just the trade winds from the bay. Most nights we kept our curtains open- due to the darkness of the hillside, no one could see in- and we got to wake to the sunrise, the smell of tropical flowers and the sound of local birds.

The view from our room as we awoke showed palms, mango trees, and the bay with pretty white and blue sailboats which had docked for the night. Since the hotel is run by the Moorings charter service, we had a daysail included in our stay, along with use of snorkeling equipment, small sailboats and kayaks to use in the bay.

On the grounds of the hotel, among the trees and tropical flowers, we found small holes in the ground. On our second day, we discovered the owners of these holes, small crabs that scuttled back and forth across the lawn. Another delight to watch were the colorful fish in the crystal clear Caribbean. We often sat on the pier to watch them dart between the roots of mangrove that grow at the water’s edge.

At breakfast our first morning there, we met the resident cat, Mooch. According to the hotel employees, he just showed up one day as a kitten begging for food. A guest named him Mooch and it stuck. Ever the well-behaved island cat, Mooch didn’t bug people who didnt want him around. Being animal lovers, we welcomed Mooch at our room and our breakfast table often.
