Just returned from a week at the refurbished Riu tequila resort in Playa del Carmen top notch everything about this place is great a nice little hotel just a short walk from the beach food is very good compared to most service is fantastic yes the beds are like rocks but they will add a cover if you ask. Lots of europeans and not so many Americans but everyone can speak enough english and spanish mix to get along. the staff and managment were some of the best can't really say enough good stuff about this place If you want an inexpensive but super trip this is the place! I have been going to this area since 1985 and always go to a different hotel, this could be the first I would go back to !

I was staiyng in Riu Tequilla for ten days with my family. Apart from the very hard bad and the mini club everything is very good. The hotel is not situated on the beach but it is very close and has a very nice path to the beach. It's much nices that Yucatan or Playacar beacuse the buildings have two floors not three and it creates mych nicer atnosphere. The worst thing is mini club poor swiminig pool, damaged siwng and small sand place but I was informed that it will be modernized in August. Don't worry you will be satisfied. Diing, social programme, clean everytnoig need to get at least 5.

My boyfriend and I got a great deal on travel online at the Riu Tequila. The hotel was beautiful. The grounds were clean and full of folliage. The front desk was very helpful in heading us in the right direction for tours etc. They had daily and nightly entertainment. The food was amazing for a buffet., and the restaurants at night were great. They offered a large salad bar if you do not want to pig out, and lots of fresh fruit and fresh breads. The minibar is stocked every 2 days and included in the price, which is great. The hotel was located in a great safe area full of other hotels nearby. Also with the price, you get to use most of the neighboring Riu hotels restaurants for free. The beach is a 4 minute walk across the street. Beautiful, warm water. Make sure you head to 5th avenue during your stay for shopping, which is a 5 dollar cab ride. If not, there are shops down the street for odds and ends that are a two minute walk away. I have nothing bad to say about this hotel, other than that the beds were a little too hard for my liking. I would definatly go back!

Beach is a short walk and very nice, take a lot of sun screen. Make sure to do the Tulum Extreme tour, swim with the dolphins, and XCarte. 5th Avenue is a nice stroll at night but avoid shopping it is very expensive for no reason.

The layout and grounds benefit by not being beachfront. Grounds are like an arboreatum - very pleasant curved walkways - and immaculately maintained. The beachfront of a sister hotel with all priveleges is a several minute shuttle ride or 7 minute walk. Lobby is delightful and the number of people in early November did not make it feel at all crowded. Meals pretty good for all inclusive. Some cooked on the spot dishes - roast duck in orange sauce for instance - were excellent. It was never more than 30sec wait to order a drink at the bars. Room was clean and OK, pleasant balcony and garden view, except exterior and interior doors provide no sound insulation, and furniture including beds extremely cheap and annoying. All wait staff was excellent. The evening shows were sometimes excellent well scripted and rehearsed musicals and dancing - the best we have experienced at all-inclusives - and other times very poor with largely ad libing and crude jokes. The good shows were very heavily attended and enthusiastically received. As older travellers, we were never saw annoying behavior from other guests. Some may say that is because the drinks are watered down - which they often but not always are. But they can always be strengthened from the unlimited alcohol supplied in the rooms.
