The room was nice enough, wifi was plentiful.
The location is amazing and was worth the money. We never took a cab anywhere and a metro station is a 30 second walk away from the hotel. Plenty of stores and restaurants in the area.
The royal palace, prado museum, a legendary flamenco restaurant are all within walking distance.
However, day 1 in July with the temperature hitting 100, there was NO air conditioning in the room. Upon my third complaint I was given a much smaller room with NO air conditioning again. At the end I slept in an air conditioned room and was moved to a better room the next day.
Overall, good experience and the location of the hotel makes up for the satisfactory level of the hotel.
P.S.: avoid their breakfast, it's not worth the 11 euros.
not worth it

We booked this hotel for our return/lay-over leg back from Barcelona to Madrid, hoping for a comfortable stay closer to the heart of the city (hotel during the first Madrid leg was north of the main area). Sadly enough the Petit Palace has seen it's better days, and what we ended up with was a shabby, dirty, run-down hotel that smelled of mold.
It's a shame, really, because the Petit Palace IS in a great location. It's simply in need of MUCH repair - the computer in the common area was broken, the wooden floors were chipped, warmed, and/or missing pieces. The room itself was tiny & cramped with somewhat rotted flooring and walls along the shower. The toilet stunk and would nearly tip over if you leaned too far to the side (honest visual, I know). The outlets in the room were on the fritz and I had to repeatedly wiggle the TV cord to make the set turn on. In addition there was no option for A/C in the room - just warm air - despite the fact that it had been rather warm outside that day.
In summary, the Petit Palace is a shell of what was probably a once nice hotel. I would rank it below 90% of the hostels I have stayed in. The sad thing is, this COULD be a great place with a lot of work.
If you're in Madrid, look further north. There are better hotels with better service, rooms, breakfast, etc. for much cheaper.

Excellent staff, perfectly located, minutes walking distance to Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor, Metro, Prado, parks. A bit of street noise, as all rooms are located on street side. But it does give one a feel for the city.
