Managed by the Family Engel, Hotel Du Nord was beautifully refurbished and upgraded to four-star status in 2001. The hotel has elegantly appointed suite rooms with huge king-sized beds that are wonderfully luxurious and worthy of a duchess!
I was lucky enough to have stayed in one such suite room on the second floor of this four-storey hotel, which overlooks the Hoheweg Promenade in Interlaken center.
Other deluxe rooms have views overlooking the castle park with its beautiful church.
And a meal or drink at one of the three cafe/restaurants offers views of the Jungfrau massif.
Located no more than 15 minutes’ walk away from one of the two railway stations (Ost/East Station), it is also close by to a hypermarket.
Though a low-rise traditional hotel (as is typical of most resort towns like Interlaken), it has all the modern trappings, including satellite TV with modem connections and even a hi-fi with CD changer!
One thing to note when staying in Interlaken is that all the hotels do not have air-conditioning in summer! Not even in a four-star-rated hotel like Du Nord! So what do you do to get some relief from the 30 degree Celsius temperature? Just open your windows to enjoy the natural air-conditioning! And no to mention the wonderful views that Mother Nature has created.
