Trident Hilton

The Trident Hilton in Jaipur is a heavenly retreat from the buzz and bustle of one of Rajasthan's largest cities. Located conveniently on the road to the Amber Fort, it is surrounded by manicured lawns and faces the beautiful Jal Mahal palace in the middle of a lake.

We were lucky enough to get a room facing the lake, with a balcony. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. A down comfortable was on the cushy king-sized bed. The marble bathrooms were large, and had a shower pumping out lots of hot water! There were nice amenities in the bathroom too--talc powder, shampoo, and body lotion. After one of our best showers in two weeks, we put on the clean and comfortable robes that were provided.

The hotel has lots to do on the premises. There is a bookshop with lots of fiction and non-fiction books on India, where I replenished my reading material. At night, there is a puppet show and a fortune teller. I spent some time at the puppet show, and spoke with the puppeteer. His family has been in the biz for a long time, and he makes his own puppets. I bought one for a friend's daughter, and it was much nicer than the other ones being sold in town. The fortune teller took a look at my palm and told me I have a wonderful spouse who loves me, and that I will have two children in the next two years.

The restaurant here was so great that we ate here everyday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The prices were expensive for India, but it seemed worth it after we had just gotten over Delhi Belly. In the morning, they have coffee made from a French Press and a delicious buffet. Lunch entrées include the delicious lamb burger, great if you've been craving meat!

The service was so good here. We felt like queens! They would always greet us in the morning at the restaurant, and ask us how our day was. It was really just so wonderful to be treated so well.

The only downside was that there was no nearby budget hotel for our driver, and he had to head back into the city every day. Also, they were not cool with him hanging out and waiting for us in the lobby. There is certain snobbery towards drivers in many places, which with our wonderful driver, we did not think was justified. But, their hotel, their rules. We simply met him outside in the parking lot.

Other services include:
* business center with Internet (for charge)
* fitness center
* bookstore and souvenir shop
* swimming pool
