5 Great Nights in the Hill Country!

Ok, so I've been a member of IgoUgo for a LONG time, but have never really taken the time to sit down and start writing my reviews of the resorts/hotels where I've stayed. Shame really as I try to travel as much as I can....so here goes with the Hyatt Hill Country in San Antonion TX!!

Our travel dates were 16AUG09-21AUG09. Location is great, it's actually about a 5-7 minute drive from Sea World. Kind of set back in a wooded area surrounded by tons of vegetation and a gorgeous golf course!!

Check in was at 4p, we arrived just a bit after that and the rooms weren't ready yet. No worries, they were to call me when they were.

We had 2 rooms booked, the Hill Country Suite and the adjoining double bedded room. Me and Hubby in the suite and the 2 older kids in the double room, plus now we have a 1 1/2yr old too and we kept her crib in our bedroom at night (Suite has a separate bedroom, and living area with a sleeper sofa, dining area with 4 chairs), and we could play games in the dining area w/the older kids. So, we waited maybe 15 minutes or so and the call came in for a ground level Suite/adj double room. Good enough for us!! Thought it would be good to have the patio over the balcony anyway cuz of the beebie. Turned out great and I'll tell why in just a bit. So check in was super fast, bellman brought all luggage to the room, we decided to get a crib for the beebie and he even suggested a high chair he could have the restaurant bring up for us...wow...super!! Crib and high chair were in the room within another 15 or so minutes and we were good to go!! Hit the GORGEOUS pool for a bit before dinner and relaxed on the lazy river float.

Our stay at the resort was great!!! Very relaxing, great staff, super check in. Suite was very nice sized and so was the double room. (Note though, T.P. in the bathroom is like service station T.P. If you like your Charmin, bring it w/ya!!! :) Mini fridge in both the suite and dbl room, ipod dock, alarm, t.v.s (old school tube tv's though), and of course our patios!! Later in our stay they even offered to bring us up a microwave.

Pool time is super here!! The pool is quite large with lots of seating, we never had a problem finding 4 chairs together, even though there were lots of people and families here. Towels are provided by the resort, just go up and grab ya one. The lazy river connects with the pool, so you just swim (or walk) under the bridge and hop on a tube passing by!! The lazy river will bring you around to a riverside bar where they will make your fav umbrella drink!! (For a fee!!). Also a bar/snack area by the big pool. There is also an adult pool, but since we had kiddos in tow, I didn't make it back there to see it this time. Lazy river was an easy enough float, our 1 1/2 yr old was able to float it and she LOVED it!!

Couple of notes:
They do charge for internet in the room. Don't know how much as I brought my wireless card w/me.
If you get a ground level room, req one facing the front as you can easily go straight from your room to the parking lot for your car (that was a plus for us!!).
The greatest thing about the ground level, around 8-9pm, you start seeing little glowing eyes staring at you :). The kids got to feed cheese nips to the raccoons that were coming right up to the patio!! They got a HUGE kick out of that and we have some great pix of it!!

Yes, it was a fabulous time, there were many stores/restaurants/starbucks nearby which was nice to keep goodies/beer stocked in the fridge (and milk/juice for the kiddos).

The only drawbacks I think were the T.P. (see above), we did encounter a couple of little bugs (silverfish maybe??) around the shower, but it's a wet area and we are in TX, and I'm not really sure if our rooms were vacuumed during our stay as I kept seeing cheerios under the dining table (yes, I know they were from us, but wasn't sure from which snack time).

I give a HUGE check +++++ for the staff, rooms, resort, pool, food.
Super great stay!!! Super great resort!!!!

First time at this resort - went for 4th of July week-end. The staff was wonderful - if there was a problem, it was taken care of through out the stay. The pools were good. The lazy river will keep a 3 year busy for 5 hours. Once we realized that the only way to secure a lounge chair was to get towels the night before, wake up at dawn, and RUN to the pool area to "save" your area we were fine. I over heard another guest complaining about this and the staff essentially said they could not do anything about it. Yes they could, a couple signs would disuade most, and they could even have area attendants like at many other resorts who are responsible for allocating lounge chairs. $5.50 for a 12 oz can of beer - I know resorts charge a premium, but wow! If they cut all their drink prices in half, most people would not bring their own beer in coolers and the resort would probably end up making more money. The Food: pool side - decent, breakfast buffet - decent - diiner buffet - inedible - get in your car and make the drive to one of SA's great restaurants, you will save a little money and eat food made by people who take pride in what they do. In summary - we will go back again and again, ready to do the lounge chair game with our cooler in tow, reservations at off property restaurants, and incredibly happy kids who did not want to leave.

We stayed over the July 4th holiday -- it was fantastic. Activities every hour, bikes to ride, the beach, the lazy river, volleyball, hiking trails - it goes on and on. The kids wanted to stay "forever." Rooms are comfortable and clean with comfortable beds - great linens - but could use some updating. The hotel itself is beautiful - great porches and welcoming lobby. Lots of walking - the property is huge! If you're coming with the family, bring lots of bathing suits and shorts - that's all you'll need, and you'll spend a lot of time at the pools. Check out the kid camp - Camp Hyatt, I think - if you want to take some time for yourself for gold, tennis, spa or dinner. Our kids loved it. Great service - staff was always helpful and cheerful.

Over Booked

When we arrived our room had been given away in spite of confirming it the day before. We were sent down the street to the Radisson and told to come back the next day. We were spending the weekend with friends so we did come back and stay the second night in spite of the inconvenience. The hotel felt understaffed. Service was friendly but extremely slow. We will not stay here again and risk disappointment as time spent with family and friends is precious. For the price, we expected a better experience. There are many other resorts available.
