A Good Surprise

  • July 21, 2007
  • Rated 5 of 5 by a traveler from Travelocity.com
We were expecting a tiny room from the reviews I had read of this hotel. Much to our surprise, the room was quite large for an overseas hotel (family room). It was very clean, and the location was great for sightseeing, shopping, etc. The people were very friendly, also.

Small room but near it all

The hotel was close to everything really. However, at check out I was surprised 3 phone calls and use of the in room safe cost me 35 euro! Room was small but worked out just fine.

Days Inn Talbot Street

We booked our airfare and hotel on Travelocity and got a great rate. The Days Inn on Talbot Street was very clean, contrary to some of the things I read on Trip Advisor and other sites. Let's be frank... it's a 2 star hotel, it's in the middle of town, and it's cheap... you get what you pay for. The room was small, but the bed was comfy and big enough for two people to sleep very comfortably. Our window looked out over Talbot Street which is a very busy street in Dublin. I read that it was noisy and that people couldn't sleep, but I didn't find it to be that bad. At night, it was normal hustle and bustle, sounds of cars. I grew up in the city of Philadelphia, so it was nothing new to me.

My cousin and I found it amusing listening to the drunk Irish singing their songs at midnight! The bathroom was of OK size, the shower was tiny. Not the best of water pressure, but it was always warm and we never lost the temperature of the water. There was a lift for you to take your luggage and an outside veranda for you to smoke. They front desk people were very nice, especially Nick who helped us book our tours. All together, I would definitely go back here to stay. The price was right, the room was clean, small bathroom... but the good out weighed the bad in our experience.

Our stay on Talbot Street

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The room was cozy, the staff was wonderful, and the location was a blessing for first-timers in Dublin. The only problem we had was the lack of air-conditioning during an unseasonal heat wave; however, we were promptly loaned a fan, which helped battle the heat. We plan to stay here again when we return next year.

Staying in a noisy closet

The room was no bigger than a closet. We could barely fit our luggage in the room with us. We had to move it around just to enter and exit. Aside from no space, the only ventalation was one window facing the street. There were constantly buses driving buy and street noise all night. Talbot street was very close to many attractions and has great shopping right on the street but this causes loud noise all day and night. I would much rather walk a few blocks or take any of the many buses that run right past the hotel 24 hous a day then stay at this hotel again.
