Find someplace else!

This was probably a nice hotel about 15 years ago, but it's quite obvious there have been absolutely no improvements or upgrades since then. I had to stay here because the conference I was attending was at this hotel. First, the parking - $30 a night! I know parking in downtown Los Angeles can be pricey, but when you consider it costs half that to park at the building across the street, something is amiss. Then there's the rooms. A room with a king bed is the size of a broom closet. Are we in Europe or something? The walls are tissue paper thin and I could hear the baby crying all night in the room next door and the rowdy people talking until 2 a.m. on the other side. The room was freezing - the air conditioning and heating were not working, so I had to ask for extra blankets. The shower barely had a trickle. And the bathroom had very poor lighting. The smoke detector' s light was flashing all night my first night there and the tv remote did not work. All of the restaurants in the hotel are very, VERY pricey. The most moderately priced one closes at 2 p.m. and there aren't exactly a lot of cheap restaurants open in downtown after 5. The concierge was useless - they couldn't even tell a tourist how to get to USC, which is just up the street. (I had to tell the poor guy) I am a Los Angeles native and I know there are a bazillion hotels in Los Angeles that are comparably priced and are way better than the Wilshire Grand. Any one of them would be an improvement.

If you like hard mattresses...

"This hotel is located RIGHT BESIDE the metro station- very convenient for travel in and around LA. Parking is an extra $30 a day so don't bring a vehicle here, shopping areas nearby and Morton's Steakhouse is right across the street. Only 2 pillows are given and the walls are thin. No airport shuttle either- you'll have to pay for that additional also. "

Wilshire Grand Los Angeles

This hotel is really conveniently located. Wilshire Boulevard is one of the main roads - it runs throughout the Westwood Boulevard / Santa Monica area (along with Santa Monica) giving you great access to the Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach, and the Grove shopping area. There is also an entrance to the 405 right on Wilshire Boulevard, and for those who are familiar with LA - once you get on the 405 you can merge onto pretty much any of the other freeways and get pretty much anywhere you want to go. If you stay here, you are pretty close to both Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, which are the two main places that you will probably want to spend your time visiting in Los Angeles.
Wilshire Boulevard itself is kind of a busy street so you aren't really going to be hanging out outside your hotel or probably walking anywhere (of course no one walks in LA anyway so that's pretty irrelevant).

Other than the location, the hotel itself was nice. It's not a chain hotel so you get a little bit more individuality and a little bit more character. The hotel is sort of a charming building with a lot of nice detail. The rooms are nice, they come with the standard 2 double bed, hotel artwork, expensive minibar stuff. The lobbies and common areas of the hotel are where it really stands out from other hotels you might stay in - they are quite well decorated and feel almost too regal for what you pay for the room.

The hotel staff are friendly and nice (as much as anyone in LA is) and will offer you help, guidance or suggestions on where to go. There aren't any tours or anything offered through the hotel so if you want that you will have to arrange it on your own (although I think the tour of the Hollywood stars home does pick up there if you arrange it through the tour company). The price is good, especially for the fact that you are getting a nice hotel that is conveniently located.

30 dollars parking?

If you are choosing hotels in Downtown LA according to the price, add additional 30 dollars to your budget if you plan to drive your car there. The facility is Old, and the walls are thin. If you already make an reservation, try to be there earlier (before 11 p.m). Otherwise you may not have a chance to find a cheaper parking spot near the hotel.Try other major hotels!
