Nice stay at the Henley Park in late April 2009

This was my first trip to Washington in a long time, in fact the last time I was there President Nixon was still in office. Although the trip was a vacation for me, it did include a training class held at the Washington Convention Center, which was just around the corner from the Henley and very convenient for the event. The Henley itself is an older hotel. It has been remodeled fairly recently and is very clean and quite modern. The area in which the Henley is located is really close to Embassy Row, a historic district of DC. I spent most of my free time walking and seeing the sights and the Henley was probably five blocks from China Town and the start of the Federal presence of buildings. The walk to the Whitehouse is not far and should be considered in blocks rather than in portions of miles. From there you can easily reach the National Mall, Smithsonian etc. The Washington Metro has a station at the Convention Center and if you opt for the day pass you can reach pretty much any Washington Destination keying off that station. The area is reasonably safe in which to walk, but it is of course better to walk with a small group if possible.
Would I stay at the Henley again, sure! I had a problem with the electronic key due to a card incompatibility, but they were helpful in addressing that from the front desk. The place is quaint and the staff are friendly and professional. Just be sure to ask for a room with a view. Otherwise you may have a view of a new building being constructed. Can you say progress?

Staying at the Henley was wonderful, but it wasn't worth * a night. Luckily, I had found a deal online for * dollars a night, making this stay one of my best decisions - overall, the hotel is wonderful in all respects, but it's nothing out of the ordinary that would make it so expensive. It's just a luxury hotel. I wouldn't recommend paying more than *.

This is one of the Historic Hotels of America organization, worth bonus points usually in my book. The Hotel is located next to a very vibrant redeveloping area in the former downtown/Shaw neighborhood at New York Avenue and 10th street; however, the view out the front door remains a little grim. Good restaurant neighborhood if you're willing to walk a few blocks.
Rooms are nice enough, sized somewhere between a European hotel and the classic US model. The "Deluxe King" rooms, you should note, have queen size beds. The neighborhood wakes up early, and can be quite noisy. Beds are comfortable.
Staff was helpful. Valet parking was expensive, as was the hotel bar. A couple of bagels and some coffee ended up costing $50, so you can do better at the Starbucks two blocks south on 10th Street.
Would I stay again? Maybe; there are places in this price class that I like better in DC. But don't be shy- this property has much to offer if you need to be in this neighborhood.

I stayed at Henley Park Hotel the night I proposed to my now fiance. The hotel experience was awful from the start. First, the receptionist said I was booked for two nights when I was only booked for one. I had to waste time and money to logon to the hotel internet service to prove this to her. Second, I paid for a King Deluxe room but was only provided a standard room. When I objected the receptionist simply moved me to another standard room. When I objected again, the receptionist said the hotel didn't have King Deluxe rooms. I guess she should check out the hotel website. When I called online travel website about the issue, they instantly contacted the receptionist who in turn lied to the agent and said she had provided me with a King Deluxe room. The receptionist was neither sympathetic or apologetic throughout the experience. In fact, while I was at the desk I witnessed to other patrons complain about the service. I have called the hotel manager and he has yet to return my call. In the end, I have never had a worse hotel experience. In the end, I received far less than I paid for. You would be better served to pay less for a better treatment at a hotel in a better part of DC. All this said, I highly recommend the Coeur de Lion restaurant within the hotel. They provided a wonderful meal and fantastic service which saved my engagement night.

Everyone that worked there was so nice & polite. Price was great. Room was great. Free breakfast was awesome. Wouldn't change a thing. Great place for a couple getaway!
