Construction noise

  • December 12, 2008
  • Rated 2 of 5 by a traveler from Travelocity.com
The neighborhood of this hotel is currently experiencing a large amount of new construction. I endured several hours of air hammering late into the night due to work in the condo high rise that connects to this Marriott. After four calls to the front desk, the management sent a security guard to resolve it. One would think that Marriott management would have negotiated reasonable construction hours to avoid disrupting the sleep of their guests. After my fourth complaint to the front desk they offered me a wake up call, to which I had to laugh and reply that my chances of getting ANY sleep were slim to none. They need more training. I would avoid this hotel.

Great location

The hotel is nicely located near the major shops (Holt Renfrew and Harry Rosen), the Royal Ontario Museum, and the big Manulife Center with movie theatres and shops - and it is linked through the underground pathways, so that you can avoid walking outside in the freezing cold! The hotel room was big and spacious, and the bathroom was pretty nice too. Food tip - skip the expensive breakfast and walk to Over Easy restaurant on West Bloor Street for some good brunch in a homey cafe setting.

Won't stay here again

Had to change rooms TWO times in three days. Once because there was hair all over the bathroom and the shower was clogged, and once because the thermostat was broken in our room. After all the inconvenience, all we got was a free breakfast voucher, and even that was awful, because I found a hair on my sausage!! I will say that the bed itself was very comfortable, but the hotel service and the hotel itself definitely left a lot to be desired. NOT a 4-star, and I will not be staying here again.

Boutique-Like Hotel

Boutique-Like Hotel

This Marriott hotel occupies 7 floors of a larger building which is private residences.

You want to stay in a room that faces south, otherwise you look into a courtyard that doesn't allow for much natural light. Rooms have new bedding and the bathrooms look and feel like you stepped into a spa.

The hotel is not your typical looking Marriott, it looks and feels more like a boutique hotel with personalized service to match.

The hotel does have an Executive Lounge for drinks, coffee, tea and snacks but it's closed on the weekends.

The location is ideal for someone who enjoys shopping as the hotel is connected to a department store (The Bay) and is down the street from Holt- Renfrew, Cartier, Chanel, Gucci, Prada, Vuitton etc..

The Royal Ontario Museum is down the street as is The Bata Shoe Museum. Plenty of good choices when it comes to places to eat everything from Burgers to Sushi.

This is a great hotel for couples or the business traveler. This is not a family hotel.

You won't want to leave your room!

The Marriott Bloor Yorkville was great. It's in a super location, near Yorkville, shopping, and subway. But the beds are probably the best feature of this hotel. In the morning you'll be torn between, starting your day in beautiful Toronto, or staying in these ultra-comfy beds a little longer. The lobby and resturant aren't much to write home about, however the service at the hotel was excellent. The people working there really went out of their way to help you out. Overall, I would suggest it to anyone traveling ot Toronto.
