A very happy surprise

We just needed a place to sleep on our way back to California from Seattle, and this was the first hotel with an open room we could find. The lobby was beautiful, but the room just WOWed us. We had a deluxe King room, but still weren't expecting much from a Best Western. Instead we walked into a huge, beautifully decorated room with a huge jacuzzi in the bedroom. We needed a cot, which was delivered within 5 minutes, and there was still ample room left. The room was immaculate and quiet, and had beautiful wooden furniture. It was very comfortable, had plenty of coffee and condiments for the coffee maker, the biggest refrigerator I've ever seen in a hotel room, and a microwave. We had a view of the river and the bridge from our room. In the morning was the free continental breakfast which included fresh waffles, cereal, bagels and muffins and boiled eggs. Tthere was also a computer in the lobby available to guests with free internet access. In Seattle we had stayed in a disappointing Ramada Inn for a week, we all wished we had stayed in this Best Western instead. I would happily return to Rogue River to stay in this hotel instead of just passing through from now on. It was honestly on par with any 5 star hotel we have stayed in previously, and because of this I will be looking at Bestern Hotels from now on when I am looking for a good price.
Incredibly disappointing

Lets see... we had issues first with them saying the motel is in Grants Pass when it is not. It is clearly in Rogue River which is even in a different county. Best Western would not release us from our reservation when we realized it was a 5 mile drive or more to the nearest decent restaurant and the town we actually wanted to stay in. We arrived late, just wanting a place to sleep a few hours and get a good shower before joining local family & staying with them for the rest of the weekend. When i got up & went to the shower there was no hot water. When I touched the ledge on the side of the shower it was slimy (indicating soap scum--not cleaned--gross). The front office said there was no hot water in the building. Great, no showers for the family of 4. We asked for a discount when we checked out (total stay less than 8 hours). The manager was very rude & said that the best she could do was $25 Trip Card. I told her that was not okay & she gave us $25 off our bill. Today when we checked our bank account we see the original $139 charge as well as the discounted $112. That's about $250 for a room with hard beds and no hot water--lovely. When I called BW to get the $250 reversed they said 5-7 days to get the situation resolved and they didn't charge us the location did (mark # 2 against the manager of this place). I have stayed in plenty of motels that live up to their descriptions. This one has a lot of wishful thinking. I have a feeling that the people who wrote good reviews were just very lucky.
