There must be better places to stay in Manhattan...

I was locked out of my room due to a malfunctioning lock and it took over 6 hours from the time the front desk was informed before I could get back into my room. The lock was broken and as I waited outside my room (as requested) for maintenance to show up to unlock the room, I was informed by one of the cleaning staff that the hotel had been having trouble with that lock for a long time. I was given another room after that incident, but still could not get to my music and concert attire (which I needed for a dress rehearsal in the late afternoon) until an hour before my dress rehearsal. The staff was apologetic and polite to me (not to each other), but not terribly efficient. My brother and his wife also stayed at the Park Central and the elevator in their wing routinely stopped two flloors below there's and would go no further. The vending machines were out of water. The air conditioning was anemic and the lobby restroom was a disgrace.

Great stay, great location, We had a great time. The hotel is within walking distance of many NY attractions. Would stay there again. The staff was friendly, the was clean but best of all was the location. Only problem was the room was a bit hot and stuffy. The said that they were having an issue with the A/C but still sleeping was uncomfortable. The loby was cool but our room was warm.
Disappointing

Have stayed at this hotel on three occasions. The first two visits were very satisfactory. The main problems this visit: (1) air conditioning was not working the entire three night stay (this was a hotel-wide problem), (2) room smelled very musty, (3) huge piece of wall paper was peeling from the bath room wall, (4) comforter on bed had big hole in it, and (5) maintenance was being conducted on elevators which was a huge inconvenience. Particularly noteworthy about this last point is that maintenance was being conducted on the elevators during visit prior to this one (18 months ago!).

During the early part of the week of 6/9, this hotel had very weak air conditioning (NYC was up around 100 degrees on those days and the rooms got very uncomfortable). By talking to others and the staff it seemed clear that this was affected most of the hotel and not just a few rooms. By 6/11 the A/C seemed to be getting better but I would suggest being wary of this hotel. They were not pro-active (nothing was said at check-in for example) and did little in the way of customer service to make the stay more tolerable. I have staid at a number of other hotels nearby and more of them are much nicer.
Oh, if you do a travel website package (air+hotel), it may be difficult to get the charge on a night's stay waived due to flight changes, etc...

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to New York. The Front Desk held our bags for us even though our room was not ready. It's New York - you can't expect southern hospitality! Elegant lobby and nice boutique style rooms. Excellent location right nex to subway station and just a few blocks from Central Park, Rockefeller Center, and several other tourist locations. The only people that could complain have probably never stayed in a NY hotel before....there are several that claim to be stylish and high-end but are not clean. This one was above par.
