Don't stay here unless you get the full oceanview room

I reserved the partial oceanview thinking that I would be able to get a decent room with a queen bed and be able to see the ocean from some part of the room. Wow, I was wrong! They gave me a room that WOULD have had a view of the ocean IF they chopped down the trees! Plus, the room had two full beds...a real romance killer. I went back to the desk to see if I could get a room with a queen or king bed, but they were all sold out, even though I checked in early! I paid an extra $15 to upgrade to an oceanview with a king bed and it was well worth it. The view was great! The condition of the hotel was pretty sad, however. The room was old and really damp. If I could have found something a little newer for the price, I would have left in a heartbeat. If you're on a budget and aren't too picky, go ahead and stay here, but get the full oceanview room.

Very disappointed--old, shabby, dirty

We chose this hotel because of its location. But when we got there, people we hanging out in the small parking lot in front, it gave us a very uncomfortable feeling. The rooms are old, the carpet is old and dirty, the towels are thin... and most of the parking is on the street....if you can get it! The staff was unfriendly, the restaurant is over priced. This hotel should be charging about $45 a night--and even at that--it's really not kept up. I travel a lot for work and pleasure, this is certainly a place I would not stay at again.....

OK Overall

Stayed for one night before travelling to Maui. Not bad for the price but, it certianly will not exceed your expectations. Definately and older hotel but, you can tell that the staff/management does what it can to keep it as well kept as possible. Parking is terrible as we had to park down the street. Kind of a quirky type of place and would only recommend it for a night or two while visiting the attractions around Hilo. Its OK but if OK is not what you expect while staying in Hawaii then go elsewhere.

Not worth it.

The hotel is pretty cheap, considering the going rates. We paid about $85 per night. I had read some of the bad reviews but i couldn't find any other rooms and I decided to have an open mind, plus we are not that picky. The location is great if you need to be close to the airport and downtown. BUT! The parking in front of the hotel is pretty small and when it is full you have to go and try your luck parking on the street. The restaurant is pricey and you are better off going to Ken's Pancake House a couple of blocks away. It is open 24 hours a day and serves local food at half the price. The rooms are the worse i have seen in a long time, they are old and not very clean. The air conditioning in the bathroom sounded like an airplane and the carpet was dirty (or just plain old). We really are not fussy when it comes to hotel rooms, but that was way on the bottom of the list. Save yourself a headache and go next door, it can't be worse than this.

Poor choice
