Not a good choice

We traveled to Richmond VA to visit family and decided to stay at the Howard Johnson Express because the rate was decent and the pictures did not look too bad. When we arrived, we were told we did not have to pay anything because we paid already through a online travel website. When we checked out, we were told we had to pay because the reservation was not paid in advance. It was all very confusing, and they were not patient enough to explain why I had to pay when I thought I paid in advance. Well, that night, my baby got sick on the bed and there was a small spot on the mattress. When I told the front desk attendant during checkout, she told me to pay $10 extra for the spot on the mattress. I asked if she planned to send the mattress out to be cleaned, she said no. She was not very accommodating. The rooms were not very clean, especially the bathrooms. There was no breakfast out the next morning and they advertise free continental breakfast. We plan to never stay there again and just pay a little more for better accommodations. It was just not worth the cheaper rate.

This was a very good motel for the cost. Room was clean and large; the bed was very comfortable. There was a very minimal continental breakfast, but expect to get food at one of the nearby restaurants. For under * a night, I was very pleased with this location. Motel is a few blocks , but easy to find.
