Austin Suites Hotel

We were expecting the arrival of hurricane Ike so I went online and made reservations at Austin Suites Hotel well in advance of the storm. On Wednesday, 9/10/08, a mandatory evacuation was issued for our city and I was glad that I had used the online company to make the reservations for 9/11/08 through 9/15/08. As we were driving to Austin on 9/11/08 we called ahead to the hotel to verify out reservation and were told that we were in fact listed as a confirmed reservation. Upon arrival at the hotel around 6:00 p.m. we found a lobby full of people trying to get rooms because of evacuees from the storm. When I finally got to the desk (about an hour's wait) with my online information in hand I was told that they were not honoring on-line reservations. They said that a third party had mistakenly listed them as an online participant. I remained calm and after much negotiation was able to get a room only because the football game between UT and Arkansas had been cancelled. Our town was hit hard by the storm and we could not return home for a week. Even though the conditions at Austin Suites Hotel were pretty seedy, we were unable to find other accomodations in Austin because of the storm. I checked with the front desk to inquire about extending our stay and learned that we were only booked for 3 days, not 4 as originally planned. Much hassle ensued; I had to give them my original receipt and then register for an additional 7 days since we didn't know when we could return home. The desk lost my original receipt that I need for insurance purposes and did not remove the tax that was exempted for evacuees. Bad trip.

As soon as my lover Daniel Gil and I checked in, we were greeted by the most polite Indian staff we have ever encountered. As soon as we walked up the uneven staircase to the third floor, we were welcomed by a lovely couple who were there for the same reason we were, we were also welcomed by a family who had actually been living here for a while, there was an older lady outside of her room who had the lovliest I.V. pump and there were children playing soccer in the parking lot. The shape of the swimming pool set the perfect mood, being the shape of male genatalia. The room itself was as spacious as my son's dorm room. We went out and returned at midnight only to find half of the Austin police department surrounding a few cars in the parking lot. All in all staying here gave us an experience that we will never forget. . .

the rooms were very small . most of the people staying there were families that looked like they lived there. only coffee you had to go get at office and that was continental breakfast. you had small kitchen in room. a guy was working on his car in the parking lot. had it on jacks. the exterior in the court yard was messy. the walkways on the outside were not level they slanted and were slippery and this was on the thrd floor. wouldnt recommend to anyone.

This hotel was much more like a furnished one room apt. Definitely NOT what classifies as a suite. Sheets, towels and microwave were all dirty.
