LIked the hotel but very small rooms

  • July 13, 2009

The staff was FANTASTIC!!! The room and bathroom were very small. Overall the rooms were clean. The elevator was an old one so you had to use the stairs most of the time, I glad we were only on the 4th floor. Liked the hotel...restaurant next door had friendly staff but the food was just okay. If you are staying downtown this hotel is great if you want to be in close proximity to all.

Would Stay Again

This hotel is in a very good location within walking distance of the bus, train, conference center, and a Padre game. It is a older hotel with a very neat elevator! The room was clean with a wonderful view! The rooms are a bit small but very quaint. There is also a patio on the 10th floor that you can see the entire city from. The staff at the desk were very friendly and helpful. The young men who picked us up at the airport were also very pleasant and professional. I would recommend this hotel for anyone who want to see the city of San DIego.

Good alternative to conference hotels

I found this place because the prices associated with hotels for a conference I was attending were absurd. This hotel was about half the price and worked out great for me. The place was clean, bed was comfortable, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. It's an easy and safe walk from the hotel to the convention center, and there are a number of convenience stores, restaurants, shops, etc., nearby. The hotel has a lot of character, too -- the ceiling in my room must have been about 15' high! Not the most modern place, so if you're looking for a luxury hotel experience you're probably better off someplace else. But if you want a clean, convenient, affordable alternative to the pricier hotels in the area then this is a good bet. I personally enjoyed staying at a place that was unique, and not a carbon copy of what is offered in any city in the world.

Great Location and Service. Great Value

We stayed three days, early November, in the Ramada Hotel. The location is perfect: walking distance from everything you may need: restaurants and a great mall too. Nice sundeck terrace, complimentary shuttle for the ( very close ) airport. Newspapers in the lobby. Friendly service. We lost a small diamond earring and we got it back. If you consider the daily rate, this is a great Hotel and we definitely recommend it.

A Little Charm In the Middle of It All

If you like stepping back in time a little bit while in the middle of all the action in San Diego's famous Gaslamp Quarter, then this is a good pick for you. If you like to spend a lot of money for a posh, modern hotel, then look elsewhere. It doesn't take a world-traveler to see that this is a "nearly restored" hotel from 1913 and might not be back to its original charm. Elevators are charming, actually famous, but not fast or roomy. Don't miss the plaque telling their story. The room was small but adequate. The bed was wonderful. The staff was very accommodating. Allow an extra 15 min if you're using the airport shuttle; not always prompt leaving! The restaurant was actually pretty good. If you're a light sleeper, consider earplugs. Not a bad trade-off for being in the heart of it all.
