We have stayed at three different hotels on the boardwalk in Atlantic city and were dissatified with the first two. We decided to try the Showboat and were pleasantly surprised. Rooms were nice, clean and service was good. everything from valet service to housekeping went well.

The Showboat doesn't act as if it's in the hotel business. Rather, it's a casino which happens to have rooms attached. (This may be generally true of casino hotels in Atlantic City. It's at least somewhat true of the Taj.)
Service from desk staff was indifferent, at best. Housekeeping services were mediocre. General cleanliness (hallways, rugs, etc.) was poor. Maintenance was apparently being deferred.
I guess if you want to spend every waking minute sitting in front of a slot machine, it might not be too bad. However, that's not the basis on which I think hotels should be rated.

was given a room on the 6th fl with all of the hotel's hvac equipment right outside my window.
What a view and did I mention the constant loud humming noise from the equipment.
Most of the hotel's restaurants had a conditionally satisfactory sanitary rating.
Very disappointing experience and would not stay here again
Bad Stay

Just don't stay here. I warned you!! The staff is very rude. I was removed from the bar area at 8:30 am just for having a coffee and reading the paper. The bar tender told me I would have to leave unless I purchased a drink. At 8:30 A.M.?? There was no one in the bar. I told him that was pretty poor guest service and he wanted to call security on me. The sheets on the bed had stains, the pillows are to laugh at and the carper was stained. When we complained we were told we have a diamond room and nothing could be done. We left Atlantic City a day early just to get away from this hotel. Go to Cape May and enjoy a relaxing stay. Service to get coffee and breakfast takes froever. I originally thought it was just us, but if you truly know what a nice stay is then you will recognize a poor hotel. Once you have been to Vegas, this is no comparison. Good Luck.. Pay the extra few dollars and stay at a higher priced hotel.
