I made the reservation directly with the motel. I made it quite clear that we needed a room that was both non-smoking and had handicapped access. When we arrived I asked to see the room to verify that the room actually met our needs for handicapped access. I could see that was the case immediately and didn?t notice that the room was provided with three ashtrays and matches. When I brought my wife into the room in her wheelchair, she immediately smelled cigarette smoke. After much discussion with the two staff members at the desk, I verified that the room was ?smoking? and our confirmed reservation was non-smoking. One of the staff claimed that the computer assigns people to rooms and sometimes overrides reservation information. We did not manage to get to sleep until after 3 AM and I woke up very congested at 6 AM with loud noises that were probably from unloading a truck just outside our room. I could not go back to sleep. I went to the desk and got the assistant manager to check on the information provided the previous night. Se said that the staff member had lied to me concerning ?computer reassignment? and the staff member that made that claim was the exact person who gave our reserved room to another party. Upon checkout, I spoke too the same two persons that checked us in the night before and one said that if we had made a medical claim, such as ashma, when making the reservation, they would have taken our request for a non-smoking room seriously. So far I have not gotten any statement from Best Western management, as I requested repeatedly each time I conversed with this motel?s staff, that the staff had followed the motel?s policy for holding reservation.

I felt that the hotel was an older one, but I could tell that a lot of effort was made to update it. It was very clean. At 1st, we were to be on the 2nd floor & found that to be a problem. But the desk clerk was very nice, & placed us on the first floor.
