Great Accomodations for Spring Training Trips

My best friend and I stayed at this hotel for a 3 day get-a-way. The facility is beautiful and the location is great. Our plane arrived at 7:00 in the morning and we went right to the hotel not expecting to get our room so early but they checked us right in and the bell hop escorts you to your room. This is important because this is a huge sprawling facility. By 11:00 we were relaxing in the steam room and whirlpool before an appointment for a swedish massage. The spa facility was wonderful and the employees were nice. It seemed there were at least 2 staff per guest at this hotel. After becoming totally relaxed we went upstairs for lunch and a drink before heading back to our room to lounge at the pool by our room. This pool was adult only and included a great hot tub and beautiful landscaping with a two story fountain that made relaxing a cinch. The chaise lounges and towel service were great. We were so relaxed that we stayed in for the evening and watched a movie instead of going out. Each room in the Sedona section includes a private balcony that offered a great view of the full moon and the lovely views of the mountains in the distance. We also enjoyed the complimentary white robes provided in the room. The large suite was perfect for two. The mini bar and teddy bear on the bed were nice too. We found the shuttle service quick and convienient for getting around. The employees we talked to seemed to love their jobs and had worked there a while. They even had an easter egg hunt for guests on Good Friday. I will stay here next year on my spring training visit.

Excellent Hotel

Some key elements of the hotel we really liked 1. Over-the-top fitness facilities - spinning, yoga exercise classes, great supply of cardio and weight equipment 2. We ate at 2 restaurants - Latitude and Phantom Horse - both were excellent 3. Stayed in the "Sedona" building - newly renovated. Recomendation: make sure you are not facing the loading area. Noisy in morning 4. Staff were always making sure we were happy 5. Oasis water park was a nice break from the heat. If I had older kids, they would be bored after awhile. 6. They have a large set of mountains behind, so hiking and bike riding was picture-perfect. 7. We didn't rent a car, so took supershuttle to hotel for $15/pp. Grocery store one block away so you can pick up snacks/liquor. 8. Free shuttle to Arizona Mills - huge shopping centre 9. In our room a mini bar is available. Push their food aside and you can keep you own supply of food cold. Things I didn't like - the cost of drinks at the bar!

Pointe Hilton South Mountain Resort

We've stayed at the Pointe Hilton at South Mountain Resort twice now...once when we first moved to Phoenix 7 years ago (my company put us up there while trying to talk us into moving...obviously, it worked) and once last weekend (Labor Day 2002). While there have been some major changes in the last 7 years, the basic quality of the resort remains the same.

The Pointe is an all-suite resort which is a necessity for us now with two small children. Our unit had a small kitchenette with sink, refrigerator, coffee maker, and hospitality bar. No microwave though, which actually kind of surprised us.

The room itself is very nice and very comfortable. Even when we folded out the hide-a-bed from the sofa, there was still ample space left in the room to move about and let our daughter play.

The reason that we spent the night at this resort, however (since our house is only 20 minutes away), is for the newly built water park: The Oasis. (See my breakout on this waterpark for more details.)

The resort has great rates during the summer (we stayed for under $100), and with the Oasis waterpark added to the several other pools the resort has throughout the grounds, it was definitely worth it to visit. I don't play golf, but from what I understand from friends that do, the Phantom Horse golf course at the resort is a great course.

All in all, a great resort. Check out their Web site at www.pointesouthmtn.com

Pointe South Mountain Resort

Pointe South Mountain Resort

The conference was at this resort which gives you an indication of its size. It is massive and you can get lost walking around if you are not careful. I wish it were a little more intimate (or at least a tiny bit intimate), but with size comes a myriad of amenities. Fortunately this was a business trip and not a romantic adventure with my fiance.

The rooms are fairly large and the suite I stayed in had a kitchenette and separate sitting room. The bed was very comfortable and the service at the hotel was exceptional. Little touches like apples in the lobby and the valets dressed in pseudo cowboy gear were nice.

What I really enjoyed was the spa. The spa has a full gym with aerobic equipment, weights, classes and everything else you need to get a really good workout. It doubles as a fitness center for some people who pay a monthly fee. You also have a great pool, excellent tennis facilities and a championship golf course.

The location was convenient for the airport (about 10 minutes away) and right off the highway (which in some people’s eyes is also a bad thing). But most importantly for me, it was right next to some great hiking and biking (although oddly enough the resort did not rent bikes).
