Hospatality even during Recovery

The staff at the Astor crown plaza, was able to host my group of 12 for our annual event. Even though the city was amidst the recovery from hurricane Gustav. The rooms were large, clean, and the staff very accommodating. They Hotel sits on the corner of Bourbon & Canal, within walking distance to dome, convention center, and some of the finest restaurants in town. I will use this hotel, again.
REQUEST IGNORED AND OVERCHARGED

The only request we had was a bath tub stopper and never got it showers only I guess. The biggest complaint is I paid for the room approx. 3 Weeks prior to arrival and after being home 2 days I find that I have been charged a second time for the room.. I called accounting and was promised a refund only to be charged a third time for the room and second time for valet parking. Another call was made and much to my surprise I have to wait for an investigation to get a refund on two room overcharges and one valet overcharge. They have been sitting on my money for about 10 days now and still no light at the end of the tunnel. So if you want to stay here be prepared to be out some money for at least 10 days.
Not what we expected...

Not sure if we had an older room but it only had a shower-which was not in room description.
Shower had dirt around the edges. We also found medicine in the room from the previous guest we presume.
The air conditioner shuts off when you are not in the room which wasn't so bad because it was not that hot but wouldn't want to be here in the summer.
Rooms were very noisy and everytime the AC shut off it sounded like door slamming shut.
We were on the 2nd floor which we were able to take an elevator to but still had to go down approximately 12 steps and then up another 12 steps to get to our room.
Room was very small but considering we weren't there that long it was OK---We chose this hotel for the great location but have stayed at hotels a block or two further away and will go back to our usual hotel--pay more money and walk a little farther.
Good For Mardi Gras

This was a perfect location for Mardi Gras for adults as it is right on Canal & Bourbon Street (WILD). Rooms are good for resting but they need some maintenance. The bath tubs are old but the water is REALLY hot which is good. The rooms facing Canal street are LOUD so we moved to another room. The staff was friendly after seeing you a couple of times kind of cold at first. Parking is an issue if you don't arrive before they close the streets and even then they may be full. We had to park a few blocks away the first night and move the car the next day. We will be back next year.
Great location and price

The price was an excellent value due to the good location, cleanliness, spaciousness and friendly staff. The location is around the corner from the French Quarter. The room with two queen beds was spacious and clean, as were the hallways and lobby. It felt safe - there was always a doorman at the entrance, even in the early morning hours. The desk staff and valet parking service attendants were friendly, although when we got the car back, there were footprints on the hood. The staff was apologetic and offered to assist us in making a claim, but there was no damage, so we didn't bother. We would stay here again.
