My stay at this hotel was a great experience and I look forward to returning. The ambience was cool, the furnishings beautiful, the bed is the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. The people who work there are very friendly and helpful. I was able to use their business room to check my e-mails. Didn't use the fitness room but it was very clean and had the equipment I would use. The restaurant, Gracie's, has excellent food and the Driftwood bar made me feel like Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra would walk in any minute. Prices are not exorbitant. I especially look forward to returning for their movie nights. It's not in the heart of downtown but within walking distance to downtown and the Pearl district.
Excellent hotel for the price

My husband and I traveled to Portland for the first time for a friend's wedding. We did not rent a car but did not need one because there is a train/metro/light rail (?) from the airport that drops you off right near the hotel. I got in really early (like 6 hours before check in) and they said they could offer me a room right away but warned me it was by the elevator. I took it as I was tired from traveling, and I didn't hear the elevator once the whole weekend. I will admit the room was a little small but it was lovely and there was a flat screen tv and an ipod dock! The bathroom was my only complaint--waaayyy too small. The staff was friendly and made great dining recommendations. They made our stay easier by calling cabs for us and making dining reservations. The bar in the hotel was nice, and the bartender was awesome. We ate at Gracie's once... the food was good but our server was not great. She was kind of stuck up and inattentive. A very pretty dining room, though. The whole hotel was gorgeous if you like art deco (which I do). There is shopping in walking distance but the "trendier" restaurants are a cab ride away. Overall it was a great hotel, we will stay there again if we go back to Portland.
Tiniest room on the planet!

I booked this hotel for one of my clients, and it was a HUGE disappointment! I usually use the Heathman, but I thought I would try something new, and this hotel promised so much on its website. My client was due to arrive after midnight, and I was concerned that they might give away her room, so I confirmed this detail twice. Both times, reservations assured me that they had made note of this, and her room would be waiting for them.
Guess what? They didn't listen! There was no room available, and they ended up sticking her in the tiniest room imaginable. She could nearly touch both walls while stretching her arms out to the sides. There was a bed in the room, and that's it -- no room for a desk or anything else!
All of the rooms are supposed to have internet access, but there was no place to plug in the computer. The only option for this was to use the bathroom!
And when she woke up in the morning, she had bites on her legs, leading us to believe that there were bed bugs.
If you're going to Portland and need a good night's rest, the Heathman would be a much better bet. I'll never book another client into this hotel.

Over all great hotel. The rooms are very small, but the staff makes up for it.

This is a nice hotel with a lot of character. It's decorated in Art Deco style with a classic movie theme. We stayed in a standard queen room on the 4th floor. The room was small, but luxurious. And since we spent most of our time exploring Portland, we didn't need a massive room. The bed was really comfortable and on the bedside table is an iPod-docking alarm clock, a nice touch.
One thing I would have appreciated is a full-length mirror in the room. As we were there primarily for a wedding, it would have been nice to be able to check our outfits in a full-length mirror before heading out. Our floor was fairly quiet, though around 8 or 8:30am, we could hear loud construction outside, so I think that would have woken us up if we weren't already up.
It's within easy walking distance to Northwest Portland and the Pearl District, just a few blocks over and you're there. I would recommend this hotel if you're looking to stay in a place with character. You're not in the heart of where the action is, but that means the streets are quieter at night. You are paying a little more, but if you want to treat yourself, this is a nice place to do so. The front desk service was really friendly as was the valet service.
