Would stay again

Alaska is expensive; be prepared to spend 20-40% more in AK than anywhere in the lower 48. Once you've made that lmental eap, you'll have a great time! Hotel room prices range wildly in Anchorage - most were between $70 and $300 when I booked in late May in times of a very trouble economy. I stayed away from the low, low end due to reports of noise and drunks nearby (I'm a single 40ish female physician traveling alone). I chose this hotel because the entire property had only non-smoking rooms, was centrally located, and was at the lower end of the price scale, but certainly far from the cellar. Overall, it was a good choice. The hotel is centrally located. Ask for a city map upon check-in - it covers many, but not all, of the downtown shops and restaurants. Glacier Brew House (pricey, but very good food) and Imaginarium across the street on 5th Ave. A small convenience store was across the parking lot on 6th Ave in the bus stop (this is NOT an A&P or a Cub Foods, but has your very basic necessities and is pricey). Internet cafe was a block away (Kaladi Bros) - 10 cents/minute on their fast computers. Room was ready early so I could check in immediately upon arriving from cruise ship transfer (around 11:30 am). Room was clean, everything in working order. Lobby was being painted but was being ventilated. It was a little noisy w/ street noise audible from my 3rd story room, but tolerable. I walked with all my bags to RR station early the following am; about 15 minutes, felt safe. I did not eat in the hotel restaurant or shop in the gift store. Front desk staff was helpful and without attitude.

The hotel was very accommodating and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean, spacious. When we checked in the manager upgraded us to a larger room for the same price that we booked thru Travel website - WOW. Service in the restaurant was very, very slow, but the food, when it finally arrived, was great. We were in walking distance to everything in town and we enjoyed ourselves very much. We will definitely return to the Westmark!

The rooms are really large for a downtown hotel, best night sleep. And free wireless! They remembered my name from my last visit.
