awful stay at bourbon orleans

  • April 28, 2008
  • Rated 1 of 5 by a traveler from Travelocity.com
The staff was completely incapable of answering the most general questions, the service by the front desk staff was horrible, the room was tiny, dark and dirty. It was probably the worst hotel stay I have ever had. There was a man passed out on the sofa in the front entry at 11 pm at night. Noone on the staff seemed bothered by him being there. At 8:30 am the staff started knocking on the door either at the wrong door for room service or cleaning. I did not sleep one minute all night. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else. I based my decision on reviews on this site, therefore I felt obligated to send my honest review in.

Best Location in the French Quarter

  • April 11, 2008

Room, bed, and bath were acceptable. The pool was a nasty shade of green. Security is a bit lax, I was able to walk right in the front door, and proceed to the elevators without so much as a challenge by any of the staff, at all hours. They were working quite a bit on the hotel, both inside and out during my stay, so the new owner(s) are trying to get this hotel back to a state of grace. The restuarant service was sub-par and the food was just plain BAD. There are some great eateries within close proximity to this hotel. It truly is the best location for easy access to all the good stuff in the quarter.

Good Hoyel, but get an inside room

This hotel winds around a courtyard with a pool. If you get an outside room (faces the street), you will hear the music from the Bourbon street clubs all night long. Get a room that faces the pool, and you'll be able to sleep. It was a nice hotel, but the rooms facing the courtyard are a somewhat small. The location is great, just 1/2 block from Bourbon street, and two blocks from the french market. No need to rent a car for a weekend stay.

Exactly what we needed

My husband and I went here for our honeymoon, and it was exactly what we needed. We were in the French Quarter, right behind the cathedral, which is a great location if you want Cafe DuMonde for breakfast. We got a great deal on a room. It had everything we needed. The restaurant (Paillards) had great food, although the service was slow. The only real issues I had were that I heard vacuuming at 2 in the morning, and the Friday night we stayed there was some noise polution from Bourbon Street. Minor issues, really, unless you need quiet for a solid nights sleep. We fall asleep with the TV on so a little noise was no big deal. My husband got a bad cold on the way so we spent lots of time in the hotel and we felt very lucky to have found a great deal.

Good Location, Dirty Showers

  • December 29, 2007
  • Rated 2 of 5 by a traveler from Travelocity.com
Despite its near-perfect location in the heart of the French Quarter, the Bourbon Orleans leaves a lot to be desired. First of all, beware the "Standard Room," which turned out to be a queen bed surrounded by four walls. Not for the claustrophobic. Online Travel Website did not list this room type as a queen size, so we were shocked that we had been assigned this little box. We could barely move around in the tiny room and had to beg the front desk for an upgrade to a king size, which they did for an extra $30 a night. Both rooms we saw had major problems in the bathroom, specifically black mold and grime in the showers, shower curtains that had seen better days, and wallpaper that was peeling off. These dark, dingy bathrooms need an upgrade, Frankly, so does the whole place -- dank hallways, a lack of amenities, thin walls, even thinner blankets. I don't care if the location is amazing; I'll never stay at the Bourbon Orleans again.
