Great place

We have stayed here for the past 7 years and find it a good bargain. The location is wonderful- across the street from the beach. It's extremely clean and lovingly cared for. The pool is nice, there's a barbeque and the #11 bus runs all along the seaside, stopping close to the front of the hotel. It's a great area to walk with some restaurants and shopping in the area - our favorite pizza is within walking distance - Umbertos just across the intercoastal waterway. The price of this hotel is very good value for the money. We encounter the same people here year after year - we'll continue to come back too.

Friends Not Allowed

we stayed at the Surfside because it was close to the seafood festival and the great rate . The motel was fine but . . . . . . YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE ANYONE COME AND VISIT YOU. NO ONE! there are no guests or visitors allowed whatsoever. we did not know this until after we checked in. If you want to go somewhere and just be by yourselves, this is the place. if you want to share in your beach experience with your friends, find somewhere else. I know the staff has their rules, but they were VERY rude about it when our friends stopped by.

Surfrider Resort

Surfrider was a very nice resort across the street from the beach. It had a big pool and big grill for all to cook on. The front desk was very helpful in everything you need, rooms were clean, good size, had washer/dryer in the unit. It was a good location.

Resort Experience:
On a whim, we checked to see if we could squeeze into a resort for a vacation in six weeks. We jumped on the chance to go to Florida, but we were a little concerned about staying in a resort that hadn’t won a reward like our newly purchased timeshare. We soon found out we had nothing to worry about. The clean, cute one bedroom had a beach theme and a full kitchen that allowed us to eat in all breakfasts, fill the cooler with lunches, and eat a few dinners at home. What a budget saver! The quality of the room resembled more of well-kept Days Inn than a swank hotel. We could use the coin-operated washing machine in the closet, slept in our first Murphy bed, and found great use for the VCR and cable TV.

Our plan was to spend the whole week at the resort's private-access beach across the street with our boogie boards but soon found out the waves in August resembled the slow-motion of your grandma’s front porch swing and dark seaweed scattered the beaches and floated grotesquely in the shallow water. The weatherman forecasted rain all week and let’s not forget the four newlyweds on this trip were pretty impressionably young when Jaws came out. Needless to say, we had to find some alternative activities. To fill the time we used the Pompano Beach area as the home base for day trips to the art-deco Miami area and snorkeling in Key Largo. We also went to Sawgrass Mall, Butterfly world, some Chess museum for the boys, drift fishing, and just down the street the Greek restaurant had a belly dancer.

The resort had pages and pages of activity ideas from scuba diving to a cruise out to the Bahamas and Key West requiring a passport. If it hadn’t been raining so much we were very interested in the bus trip to Disney and back on a chartered bus.

We all agree Surf Rider, even in the rain, had a lot to offer.
