We travel as a family, and my husband has a very restrictive diet. So we actually needed to use the features of the Whitney. Unfortunately, a lot of the features and amenities didn't work. Our iron was broken. The hairdryer in one of the bathrooms was broken. The lighting in both bathrooms was quite bad. The heating elements on the stove were crooked so it was hard to cook because the pans sat on an angle. Some of the pots had burnt on food still stuck to them...LOTS of burnt on food. There was no scrubbing sponge or dishsoap to allow us to clean the pans ourselves. There was only one fork and no spatula. Three plates. Two bowls. The coffee pot leaked all over the counter. The hot water ran out when my husband was showering (third shower of the morning)...completely cold. They have old fashioned door locks on the bedrooms, and my three-year-old son locked himself into one of the bedrooms and couldn't get out. There was no way to unlock the door from the outside, so the hotel staff went in search of a crowbar to try to break down the door. Fortunately I was finally able to talk my son through opening the door before we had to resort to that. One of the sliding doors to the balcony wouldn't lock, which put me in constant worry that my son would wake up before I did and wander out on the balcony unsupervised. The wifi is only available in the lobby, not in the rooms. The faucets had built up crud around them, and everything was just generally a little on the grungy side. The bedding was bad, and they refused to give us three blankets. We haggled for two. Staff were very polite.
