Nice for the price

Nice 3-star stay for a decent price after discount (we booked day before stay).
No view from the "river view" room due to overgrown trees that need to be thinned.
Staff was minimal but nice. Hotel appears to have been better once, but is still ok.
Be sure to get your breakfast vouchers when you check in. Breakfast buffet was ok but simple, and if you don't have your voucher, expensive. They were cordial about correcting our missing voucher situation after presenting us with a big bill for a few bagles. Tables were set with nice napkins etc. and staff was there to pour coffee and take orders from the menu if more than the buffet was wanted.
We stayed here to attend the Chicago Air Show. The one hour drive into Chicago was easy from here on a Saturday morning.

We were really happy with our stay. The rooms exceeded expectations and the river views are really nice. To often hotels in city's like Rockford lack character and are the same old generic "hotel by the interstate". The Lexington was different and alot of attention had been paid to details, both in the hotel and in the staff.
The bar, Cliffbreakers, is also very nice with a magnificent deck that overlooks the Rock River and the bridge. An unexpectedly nice view and a great amenity.
Cliffbreakers is a vacation heartbreaker!

The front desk staff was unfriendly and did not provide a hotel map or explain any ammenitites such as breakfast buffet, restaurant, and pool. No information was provided in the room either. Once we found the breakfast buffet we found that the food was the worst we have ever tasted and the one waiter for the whole dining room could not keep plates, glasses, and coffee available for the guests. The room was okay but the beds were uncomfortable and the bathroom was never properly stocked with towels. We had four people and they would only stock for one or two. The first day the pool was locked all day because they forgot to unlock it and we had to track down a staff person to unlock it the second day. The pool area was unclean and dead bugs floated from the bottom of the pool to the top while we were swimming. A door that should have been unlocked to the pool deck was locked and trapped two family members outside until they climbed a privacy fence to the parking lot and entered through the front door. There is only one elevator and you had to take the stairs during the times that the cleaning staff was moving their carts from one floor to another. There was no express check-out available and there was a long line to check out with only one staff person at the desk. I called the desk for a wake up call and never got it the next morning. Overall I got the impression that noone cares and it just wasn't a nice place to stay. Skip this one if you are going to Rockford.

Very Nice Resort, very helpful staff, and pleasant surroundings. I plan to go back.
One of the most unique hotels in the midwest.

Our experience at Cliffbreakers was wonderful - from the ambience to the rooms to the food. They have lots of beautiful antiques which gives the hotel a European feel. Many of the rooms are also unique - ours was 2-levels with lots of space and beautiful views of the river. The meals were delicious and had a gourmet flare. The Sunday brunch is not to be missed.
