Not bad

When one of the amenities is "exterior corridors" there isn't much you should expect. But for what we needed - a place to stay - it was fine. I thought the room was fine - comfortable and not noisy at all. The bathroom was too small but the water temp and pressure was good. We had a parking space even after getting there around 1 in the morning. The staff was courteous and very helpful. It was a short walk to the train station (Braddock Street) and spent most of our time sightseeing, so we weren't there much. So if you're not going to use all the great stuff another hotel might provide, why pay for it?
What we needed.

When one of the amenities is "exterior corridors" there is only so much you can expect. We had two beds and a TV. The bathroom was a bit small, but the water temp and pressure in the shower was fine. The staff was courteous and informative. It was a short walk to the Metro (Braddock Street) and ultimately, the price was right (less than $100/night). Since we went sightseeing pretty much all day, we weren't there all that much. I stayed here with my family and would do so again.
Not a good choice

One of the cheapest in the area but not really worth it for saving a few bucks. Not very clean. Very noisy at night. Not enough parking space, need to park on the street. Room size is okay, but not very clean. Quite noisy at night (cars, buses, doors, plumbing...). Complimentary breakfast was a joke: coffee was bad; cereal provided but no milk; only one types of donuts and no bread, no toast, and nothing else. Room service was bad. Did not get toilet paper, tissue paper, and complimentary coffee replacement until you ask the front desk. Housekeepers smoked in our non-smoking room. Good things: very close to King Street; very close to Traders Joe; free internet access; free microwave and refrigerator, across from a gas station; quick drive to DC. If budget is a matter or just stay there for 1 or 2 nights, it is not a bad choice. Otherwise, look around.

This is the dreariest, dingiest motel I've stayed at in years. The rooms are in sad shape -- rusty bathroom fixtures from the 1950s, rotting wood trim, coarsely patched holes in walls, stick furniture that long ago outlived its usefulness, The rooms are NOT clean. Our window was directly next to the entrance stairs for some other apartment, so if we left our window open for badly-needed fresh air, anyone could have just climbed in. The hotel is about 10 feet from two well-traveled streets and a firehouse, so we were awakened several times by sirens and loud car noises.
The breakfast featured some chemical drink mix as orange "juice" and staff that kept checking on us through the two-way mirrors. Staff was universally unhelpful: wouldn't call a cab, wouldn't print an invoice, didn't seem at all interested in dealing with pre-paid guests.
Pluses: The wireless internet works; the location is near charming old towne, 5 blocks from Metro.
Dingy and depressing

This hotel is bargain priced, but it's satisfactory only for those who would otherwise sleep in their cars. It's the worst place I've stayed in years: dirty, dingy, and depressing. The rooms haven't been renovated for decades-- the electrical outlets are two-prong ungrounded, the walls have numerous, poorly-patched holes, the furniture is rickety, the bed squeaky, the bathroom fixtures rusty and vintage 1960. There wasn't even a light over the bathroom mirror. The room was musty but we didn't dare open our window because it looked out on an apartment entrance stairs. Anyone on the street could just go up the stairs, open our window, and climb in. I would have canceled after just seeing the room but unfortunately we had prepaid for four awful nights. "Breakfast" was a joke. The "juice" was some sort of drink mix and whatever was in the Raisin Bran dispenser wasn't raisin bran. The staff was only minimally helpful and seemed obsessed with watching us through the one-way mirror as we ate breakfast.
On the plus side, the free internet works, the Metro is five blocks away, and Alexandria is full of nice little shops not far away. The neighborhood is safe and not too noisy. There are enough towels, and the beds are comfortable. If you're on a rock-bottom bargain budget and don't mind a room that looks r-e-a-l-l-y lived-in, then go for it. Otherwise pay more and stay elsewhere.
