Barcelona - Hotel Colon

Barcelona - Hotel Colon

We stayed in this hotel during the Merce 2009 festival week. As there was a huge stage, rigged up right in front of the hotel, where they had nightly concerts celebrating nothing but extreme decibels, we were given a room at the back. Even so, the noise was intrusive to the extent that one could feel the thumping of the bass. Fortunately we are city dwellers and can sleep through noise. Pity the people who cannot!

The hotel, though, is excellent. From a very attractive foyer, where the reception is friendly and very efficient, one is guided to your room. The spacious rooms are kept clean to a fault and are comfortable.

The buffet breakfast, that was included in the rate, is better than average and is constantly replenished.

On our next visit to Barcelona, that cannot be soon enough, this hotel will certainly be first choice.

Very Friendly and Great location

The hotel was centrally located. I had a single room with has the typical twin bed which was fine. It's right in front of the Cathedral, less than 5 minute walk to Las Ramblas and close to the Metro. Buy the Metro 10-stop pass at the corner Cigar shop (cheaper than at the station - per the cigar shop attendant). From the airport take the Aero Bus and pay the driver and don't fumble with the ticket machine. The last stop on the bus is Playa Catalonia. Short walk to the hotel. But watch your things. Watch out for cab drivers they will nickel and dime you. Atleast they hit me up for 35 Euros when it shouldn't have been more than 25 Euros. The Metro is one Euro less than the bus but annoying if you need to change trains. Up and down stair cases. Very cumbersome.

Even while using a proper power converter my hair melted when I attempted to curl my hair. I've been all over Europe and NEVER had that happen before.

Don't pay extra for the view, the Cathedral is under construction and totally covered

Hotel Colon is directly across from the Cathedral. Cathedral is undering massive restoration & is covered in scaffolding. View overlooking Cathedral square is facinating non-the-less. Rooms are comfortable but a bit worn. Carpeting needs to be replaced. Interior room is very quiet. Balcony room larger but more noise. Check out Neyras restaurant down the street for tapas/dinner. Yummy!
