Resort Experience:
We stayed at the Elysian Beach Resort on Cowpet Bay, St Thomas, USVI, from 9/21 until 9/28. We had to use 2 bonus weeks because we were staying midweek to midweek. The first room assigned to us had a terrible odor, musty and dank. We were given another room overlooking a large shipping container. We asked for another room and were given one that was very nice, with a view of the pool, beach and bay. The room was furnished with a small refrigerator, microwave and coffeemaker. When I noticed that there were no clothes hangers, I called the front desk for some. I made two more calls for the hangers over the next two days, and none showed up, although each time I called I was assured they would be delivered immediately. Finally, I walked over to the lobby and spoke with the assistant manager who had some hangers delivered to our room.
We did have to move on Saturday, because our unit was already assigned to someone. Our new room was fine, view was okay, but it was almost impossible to open and close the sliding door, and the sliding screen door. We probably wouldn’t have spent too much time sitting out on the balcony anyway because of mosquitoes. You definitely need to bring insect repellent with you to this island.
Having to bring our used pool/beach towels to the lobby to exchange them was inconvenient. We have stayed in other places where towels were available by the pool.
Restaurants at the resort served good food, and the bar offered great "mango-tangoes." Like most of the other restaurants on the island we dined at, the food is rather expensive for what you get.
The front desk staff was very courteous in adjusting our bill for calls that did not go through when we were trying to hook up to the internet.
We did not use any resort activities, as we rented a car and explored on our own.
